CAN anyone help with a print I have to do for my brother.

HE would like a large map printing to hang over his mantlepiece.

I have had a world map photgraphed and need it printing onto a canvas material so it can be ‘stretched ‘ over a frame like a painting.

    Approx size is 914mm x 610mm.

Also as anyone got a good photoshop tip to artificially ‘age’ the map so it looks like an original map, sepia tint or something similar?

You could use some variation of the old ‘rub some cold tea into the picture to make it look old’ trick – Find or make a blank page of an aged effect and add it as an additional layer with low opacity. Maybe. There are a thousand ways to do all things in Photoshop, I usually just muck about until I get the desired result.

    Tim,

I’d just mess about with the colour balance, or as G says overlay a transparent layer of texture/colour wash.
For printing, I think most of the big digi print guys have stuff like this to print onto, try Raccoon 01732 864966, JKN Digital, 01772 722735, B&P 01932 568555, AAASK 0141 554 8261.
Trouble is with such a small area, you are likely to get stung with minimum order charges and carriage – unless someone on the boards can do it as a favour for you ??

rebecca has a huge mimaki jv3 printer. thats probably well capable.
if not her, chris (fluidedge) has a cadet. if like its big brother and agressive printer it may well do it just dandy. 🙄

as for the aging. im with the others and a layer applied over it in photoshop. 😉
try some photochop sites they tend to have downloadable layers like this for fancy bits and peices 😀

    best of luck mate..

Rub a wet tea bag into a blank sheet of paper, scan it, overlay it. Lovely. Gives a nice irregular texture and you can customise this method to add degradation according to your map image.

By the way, (username) Migs on this site has a grenadier, just to add to your list of possible printers. I don’t know how many people would keep canvas in stock so the more the merrier.

    Hi Tim,

As well as the new Cadet we have a 42″ wide Epson 9000. 6 colour and 1440dpi.

Used a lot for fine art prints and also prints onto canvas for stretching.

Archival inks as well, rated 99 years for indoor displays.

Just done one for the bank manager, him and his missus at their wedding last year.

Thanks Guys, couple of good ideas as always.

Fluidedge- The finished size will be 1500mm x 750mm.

This needs to be stretched into a picture frame so a little extra round the edge will be required.

What format would you need the file in. at the moment it is 130MB photoshop file at 3.5m x 1.7m @ 72dpi.

Can you also let me have an idea of price etc.

    Kind regards

    Tim

    Hi Tim,
we could print this for you with either water based pigment inks or solvent onto canvas. Our minimum order is £35 and for the size you have mentioned the cost would be £55 plus carriage and VAT.
