• Hi Res Poster Art

Posted by Simon Strom on March 6, 2009 at 9:38 pm

Anybody know where to find hi resolution poster art for printing? One of my co-workers is having a 50th birthday party, so our boss wanted to throw a 1950’s themed party for her. He’s looking for movie posters from that era. Namely movies like "North by Northwest", "Journey to the Center of the Earth", "Some Like it Hot" etc. He doesn’t mind spending $10 – $20 for the artwork. Any help would be appreciated.

Simon, add a couple of zeros to your bosses budget, for poster art, most is still under copyright, and very expensive, even for a one time use license,
Best you can do would be just to buy posters prints on line. probably work out cheaper than doing them yourself.

Thanks for the fast response Peter. Yeah he could have found the posters on eBay at an affordable price, but the party is tomorrow night! I didn’t think about it earlier, but he might be able to find a book with the posters in it and then scan at a high dpi. Not as good as the real thing, but it’s just for the party anyway.

    Simon
if it a good party, no one will notice if the images are high res or not,

anyway if you scan some appropriate images, you can always blur them a bit for effect, and they will still look good

Thanks Nigel. Unfortunately he waited until it was too late to have something delivered. Yeah, I wasn’t aware of the quid thing until I went to school in the London on a study abroad back in 1996. Much like our American slang for a dollar sometimes called a buck (from when buckskins were used for money or barter). Not exactly sure where the term quid came from. I like the way sounds though! I’d be interested to know if you’re aware. Anyway thanks again Peter and Nigel for the help.
