    Hello everybody

Just way to start up my own vinyl sign business. Ive been in the motor trade for about 10 years as a car painter a family owned business. And am just trying to branch out a bit. My idea is If a car/van with sign writing comes in damaged we will repair the panel and i will replace the vinyl

I don’t know how you guys feel about copyright on this matter? But i feel it is ok because the sign writer should have made his money from this job. But i would not copy some one else design if a customer came to me trying to get a cheaper price!

I have been looking about and i think i am going to go for graphtec CE3000-60 with signlab 8 with 3M 50 series vinyl does this sound good? I have used 3M products in the motor trade before and they are a good manufacturer

    Any advice welcome

    Martin

    Hello Martin.
Are you setting up a sign business or just looking to do your own stuff for bodyshop use?

    Karl.

    Welcome Martin.
I know what you mean. We all do crash repairs occasionally and think nothing of reproducing someone else’s design in that instance. I don’t think it’s the same as nicking a design.

Good choice on the software and plotter, I don’t know that vinyl but I’m sure someone else would have had experience of it. If you are going to do crash repair work, then you will need swatches from plenty of vinyl manufacturers as they all do different colours and crash repair colour matching can be a pain in the arse sometimes.

    Hi Martin & welcome.

Good choice of plotter, software & vinyls there…nice to see quality materials used from the outset 😀

Shop around though – there are plenty of quality manufacturers / suppliers at varying prices.

Hi thanks everybody for the great welcome

Karl i think i will just stay with vehicles for just now. Thinking of going in to digital printing for vehicles in a few years. But trying not to get a head of myself don’t want to run before i can walk.

Andy you think its hard to match vinyl you should try paint now that’s i nightmare! But am ways up for a challenge.

My dad just got a new recovery lorry so that’s my first job. Will try to put up some photos when am finished get a expert opinion on it

Will get a photo of myself up asap
