Hi-fli go large in Scotland
One of the UK’s leading manufacturers of environmentally – friendly banners, Hi-fli Banners & Flags, have recently completed the biggest banner project ever unfurled in Scotland. Measuring in at 650 square metres, the bespoke banner was created for the Edinburgh Corn Exchange Village, a premier conference and entertainment venue set on a nine-acre site within the capital city. Pool, 5-a-side football and a sports bar are included in the sites attractions.
The Corn Exchange has recently undergone a major revamp of its banqueting and sporting facilities and wished to publicise the types of events that can be hosted at the venue. The mega banner, the section around the left side of the building is 44.4m x 4m and the frontage is 80m x 7m, features images of events held at the venue including pictures of Oasis front-man Liam Gallagher, DJ Shadow, conferences, exhibitions, weddings and awards dinners. Hi-fli was established in the year 2000 and is based not only in Kirriemuir in Scotland but also Cheltenham in England. The Scottish branch of the company worked around-the-clock for two months to complete the project. Easily dismantled into five sections, the mega mesh piece uses a mixture of steel; wood, bungee and tie wrap fixings. Commenting on the job, Rory Blackwood, General Manager of Hi-fli Banners & Flags, said: “Our company has far ranging expertise in this area and over the years we have manufactured some attentiongrabbing giant banners for sporting ceremonies, cultural and media events throughout the UK and Europe. Our banners are lightweight, flame retardant and easily transportable, plus we can design and create any image, in any shape and any size.
“The mix of the imagery, coupled with the sheer size of the piece, makes it an eye-catching display, offering the visitor an instant snapshot of what the venue can offer. It’s particularly thrilling for our team here at Hi-fli that this banner could hold the current record for being Scotland’s largest banner ever made.“ The Corn Exchange chose Hi-fli to create the work due to their track record of producing large format pieces for clients that include The V Festival and Glastonbury as well as many major sporting events. Paul Demarco, Director of the Edinburgh Corn Exchange added: “We approached Hi-fli because of their green credentials and their expertise with similar projects.
I felt that it was important for people to see the kind of events that the Corn Exchange can cater for and being able to visually illustrate this on such a large scale is great for us. As you know we recently had a revamp of the venue and we wanted to advertise this in a way which was different, and Hi-fli have certainly helped us to achieve this.“ We understand that Hi-fli is the only UK-based flag and banner manufacturer to knit, digitally print and finish it’s products in house. They are fully committed to the protection of the environment and are the winners of the Angus Ambassador Business Award for 2005.
