    Just thought ‘d say hello,

    My name’s Hugh,

i’m new to both the board and the industry,

i bought a cutter last year to sign my own race car, i’d had no previous experience with signs other than having to wait ages for my local sign shop to get my signs done ! so i started doing my own for mine, and my friends cars, (drag racing cars, ),

I originally had no intention of working for myself, it was to be a part time hobby !, but, following a redundancy a four months ago i decided to put the best part of an idle £2k’s worth of equipment to better use !

My company was born, I’ve tons to learn still, and mainly still do mail order work for car clubs etc, but i’m gradually moving into signing more and more vehicles and shops as my confidence grows in applications (funny how much more worrying a big sign/decal is to do when its not for your own use !) , i’m currently trying to build the business to a stage where i can be fully independant of the mrs !!!

its hard work at the moment, i’m still working in the spare room, so moving into the new timber workshop will be a bonus and will allow me to be more comprehensive in my services offered.

so that’s me ! i hope ya’ll forgive the odd dumb question asking advice on what may seem, to most of you, a fairly simple task, but we all started somewhere, right ??!!

    cheers……. Hugh

Did I understand properly you are moving into the timber shed to get a bit of peace from the Mrs 😀

    something like that !!

i live with the mrs (girlfiend) part time, all of the cutting and mucky stuff is done here at the flat, but if i’ve still got stuff to do, i’ll get it all cut and take it over to hers and weed out on the kitchen table, so i kinda get in the way, the shed has just been erected at hers, the power is now in, and all i now need to do is to ply-line it all out and make it nice and clean and build the benches / lightbox etc,

as much as anything its so i actually get on with some work, being as i’ve only started this full time recently, i could probably get a days work crammed into about four hours, trouble is…. that being in the house/flat, everything is there to distract you, like all those little jobs i need to do (here or there) such as fixing a shelf, housework 👿 etc etc, so i end up starting sometime in the morning, and still sitting here doing them at this time of night, eg, i’ve been on this board browsing now for about 2 hours whilst a whole shop worth or cut and weeded vinyl is sat awaiting masking, it’s only been there since midday… yesterday !!!

so the shed move is to give me a dedicated work time, where i have no distractions from doing what i need to get done, and let me organise my day, whether designing (i use the word loosely !) cutting or making, it will also allow me to actually ‘make’ signs as apposed to trying to cut a 5mtr long sign board or facia in the hallway !!! i’ll have space to use / store powertools / vinyl etc too, i must have 20 rolls of vinyl hidden in every orifice of the flat ! i’ve got most forms of power tool, and know how to use them properly, there’s so much more i can do once i get organised ! it getting a pain now so the move is long overdue !

    Hello Hugh 😀

    Welcome to UKSB!!!

Nice intro and great to see you posting your stuff in the other forums too.

Is your girlfriend going to be charging you rent then for the workshop? 😉 Or is it a contra deal for all the diy you do 😛 Well lets hope you get some work done in there ….. now that you have found this place …. might prove difficult 😉

Look forward to seeing you around the place ….. oh and if you have a piccie to post up that would be good … no pressure though!

    :welcome:
