  • Hexis 20000 or 3M 1080 for a roof wrap?

    Hi All,

I’ve been asked to do a roof wrap on a Kia Sportage in gloss black & am wondering which of these two would be most user friendly to do the job? It appears they are both high-quality vinyls so I don’t see any issue with durability.

I’m not a total novice at wrapping having done a few printed vinyl van backs but it’s not something I do a lot of & I know coloured vinyls can be trickier than laminated prints being thinner so I guess the more forgiving the better.

    Thanks in advance

    is this the car?

of the two I would go with 3M. Hexis will do it no sweat but user friendly I would side with 3M.

are you allowing for the fin on the roof, do you have a game plan to tackle it?

Hi Rob, Yes that’s the one. I’m actually looking at the 3M 2080 now which I believe is the next gen with protective film layer.

I hadn’t actually seen the fin. I guess that will be a bit of a pain!! I have a feeling I’ve read something about them somewhere before & that removal is tricky! I don’t see it being a problem to trim around for the roof but to wrap it I’d imagine could be tricky!? Any tips?

      😂

    I haven’t used 3M 2080, but I’ve heard a few complaints about the finish.

Oracal 970 for me, and it feels thicker than Avery/3M, doesn’t have the control tac adhesive, but for a roof will be more than suitable. It’s out go to film for partial wraps.

Thanks for that David, Yes I just looked at that & It’s better too as I can just get the 3m I need rather than 5m min order with the 3M. Do you use the RA version?
