Help with window sign layout please?
Hi everyone,
I appreciate all of you on this forum and the help that you give so freely. Thanks.
I would like some feedback on my advertising concept below … but please be gentle … this is all new to me. 🙂
Overview
My TV repair business is hidden away in the backblocks of town. I have access to a window to use for advertising, in an old shop which is located on a busy main road leading into town (60 km/h zone).
What I plan to do is print a backlit display to fill the entire window … 2700 x 1600 … and then build a lightbox behind it with 7 or 8 fluros.
The reason for a sign is that I need something that will generate more work for my existing business, without having to advertise constantly in the local paper.
The reason for choosing backlit is to showcase what can be done with the media as I plan to target that market here in town (using my trusty old HP3500).
The only backlit signs around here are vinyl cut ones, so there should be a market for some digitally printed ones also, and as there are no wide format printers around other than a couple of plotters in architects offices, I shouldn’t be stepping on anyone else’s toes.
The Sign
Because of the speed of the traffic and the fact that the building is set back 7 or 8 metres from the kerb compared to adjoining businesses, I assume I need to keep the message to a minimum so it can be easily read at a glance.
I also (obviously 😳 ) don’t have any idea about layout, colour and style of lettering, so am particularly open to advice on that.
I am pretty quiet and reserved, so to put my own mug shot on it is a pretty tall order, but I do have a couple of reasons for that. I don’t know if having the kids on it makes it too busy though.
The ‘bent” arrow is not very appealing to me either, but the reason is to show that my workshop is not 2 km down that main road, but that there are a couple of corners to turn.
If any of you have any suggestions, I am keen to use anything eyecatching that perhaps cant be done easily any other way, to show off the advantages of printing.
(I know this draft is pretty rough around the edges, but there’s no point perfecting it as I’m likely to need to change heaps first)
Ok … enough waffling … thanks for reading this far. 🙂
