Help with redrawing a shape

I would make a circle, convert it to object, convert it to curves.
Make a very thin rectangle then position it atop the circle where the sharp point should be. It shouldn’t extend into the bottom of the circle. Then trim it. Delete the rectangle. Lock on a node beside where the trimmed area is to keep that point from being rounded. Then fiddle with it till it’s right.
Then copy and paste the altered circle into the center of the first one and shrink it down to make the middle of the O.
Probably about a million steps too many but that’s how I’d do it in Corel 12.
Or….just buy that damn ugly font.

Hi Harry

You should be able to add a node with the pen tool, with the pen tool hold the alt key or one of those keys and it should put a little + next to the pen, then click on the stroke where you want to alter the shape, this adds a node that you can then simply (in this case and example) drag down to create the point in that shape (obviously hold the shift key so the node comes down in a straight line)

This is in Illustrator but would think it would be the same in Coral.

sorry to add on, drag the handles on the nodes in to the node to take the handles away and makes it a straight line, or amend the curve using the handle until you are happy with the shape.

Start with your circle,
right click – convert to curves
Select shape tool (second icon down)
From there you can;
double click to add a node
pressing c with a node selected will change it to cusp if smooth and vice versa
Press l to cahnge from curve to line and vice versa,
Double clicking a node will remove it
Aligning nodes icon will enable vertical or horizontal alignment.
By using these methods and having the bitmap as a template it should be easy to manipulate the shape as required.
Starting with a powertrace may give you a start.

😳 sorry but just want to correct my post sightly, you will need to add in 2 nodes side by side to make that shape if it is not going down from an existing node, if you only add one node then it will make the circle oval and not just move down one piece.

hope that made sense but by the looks of it Coral is a bit different 😕

Illustrator again, but I’d use the scissor tool to cut the path, then just drop the node down a tad, then join.

I might be missing something but I just convert it to a bitmap then use corel trace to draw the shapes usually looks fine??

Now I use Signlab, Illustrator and have Corel on the system but this is a no brainer. To me some sort of vectorising software is the way to go as messing with all the nodes is just tiresome.
As a test I tried this in Vector Magic. It created a perfect vector image in exactly 11 seconds with no further editing required.
Why struggle?
OK it’s not particularly cheap but the results with all manner of pictures are just stunning. It works even better than Signlab vectorising and has full auto mode or step by step, see what you get adjustments.
Over a period of time this has proved to be good value in the time it saves alone.

Thanks a million folks for the prompt replies….Alan method has been spot on. 😀
A trace would not be good enough as client wants a master copy. He has lost his original files.
I reckon it’s looks where nurture rather than nature Jill….it was probably a good looking font until it met a designer!. 😀

When I bought it I complained about the exchange rate making the cost prohibitive so they gave me a $50 discount 😀 You can subscribe online for a monthly fee though.

Brilliant results from Vector Magic, however I do need to learn how to do these things as I guess the results wouldn’t be as good from a really bad pic?
