I’ve been asked to quote these banners for my previous employer… They’d like to give me the work and i’d like to get in with them..
My question is, can anyone give me a guess of what dpi these have been printed at by the pics?
I want to be competitive and would like to do them at 150 dpi. I don’t have the banner here and don’t print in house so it’s a little hard for me to draw this conclusion.
The banners in the pics are 4 ft. x 8 ft.
    Thanks for any help.

    steve

its hard to tell at that distance mate… ide guess 300dpi

if that blend wasnt in the background you could do most of it all in cut vinyl. maybe an idea to offer it without background blend and do it all in cut vinyl. then just do the text with the gradiant as a print?

    thanks Rob,
Can’t wait “till I’ve done it all and just know how to do everything…. maybe in about 196 years!

I was planning on buying prints and adding the black text in vinyl… that will be different on all of them.

I just don’t have anything here printed at 150, so i don’t know. I’m hooking up with a new supplier for prints, so i guess i should get some samples…
They offered me quotes on 150 and 600…..
time for a phone call I guess.

would a print from my desktop printer at actual size give me an Idea??

    Hi Steve

Andy Butler would be good guy to ask about this sort of thing. He does all of our banner printing and he really knows his stuff

I’ll call him and get him to post a reply

    Cheers

looking at the banners in those pictures i dont think will give you any real indication of print output. i would suggest getting some good quality artowrk, give it to your trade printer and ask them for a sample/price. go back to your customer with the sample and costings. looks more professional offering a finished sample anyway, in turn makes you look good 😉

Looking at the design, it would be real easy to vectorise and supply good quality graphics to the printer and as rob said, get sample/price if time allows.

good luck with getting the job Steve

    Hi there..
very simple for someone with a solvent printer… for a start the coverage is low and most of the banner is white… so it is cheap.

The black is dense, so it would say it is made up of 20% in cyan/magenta/yellow and full on black. We print at 540dpi (or sometimes at 720dpi).. it doesn’t look like a lo-res banner as they can look faint on 192dpi.

Also, doesn’t really matter how you prepare the print file as long as it is above 100dpi, the rip does the hard work.
