  • Help with a Miller Weldmaster T3, Banner hemming machine.

Posted by David McDonald on March 26, 2020 at 9:33 am

    Morning All

I hope everyone is fighting fit and well.

We have a banner welder, a Miller Weldmaster T3, It’s stopped heating and is showing the message "rP1/attn".

The UK supplier / support provider of this kit isn’t answering which isn’t really a surprise at the moment.

Does anyone else have this model and have you seen this message / experienced this problem? If so was this user serviceable and how?

    Keep safe everyone.
    Dave

Unfortunately, I can’t help Dave, I have a Leister Banner welder mate.
We have had the leister for a good ten years now. as much as we do a lot of banners, we tend only to use the welder for very large banners.
an interesting machine as I haven’t seen the Miller Weldmaster before, How do you find it?
by that I mean, do you still use hemming tapes, strengthening tapes or is it all purely welding the hems via the weldmaster?

    Hi Rob

Our model is similar to the one in the picture but a bit more compact. They are good machines and this is the first real fault its had after hemming countless 1000’s of banners. They have a very heavy duty build and give a really good strong welded hem. We have other attachments for pockets etc. but don’t use these as by the time you’ve got them just installed right its quicker to go with tape unless you have loads to do. It’s much faster than using tape, looks better, and doesn’t suffer as tape does when you roll it. The only down side is if the banner is larger than a few metres in length its not easy as a 1 person job unless you have something on the output side to stop it skewing – I’ve kept meaning to get some gravity rollers for the output side and put an angle along one edge so it comes out easy and stays straight. For now someone holds the end coming out and keeps it straight – still hugely faster than tape though. I might work on the rollers whilst we are quiet.

I’m sure our current fault will be a quick change over of the heated wedge whenever the supplier is back in work. So we are back onto tape full time for now.

    Cheers
    Dave

We had a demo of the Leister welder a few months ago. Unfortunately, the leister sales guy doing the demo couldn’t use it!
This didn’t give us any confidence at all haha so we didn’t buy.
We did purchase a pneumatic eyeleter however which is good.

Thanks for the feedback, Dave. It’s appreciated.

When I think about it, it’s no wonder I haven’t seen your machine as I really haven’t looked since before I bought the leister which as I say is well over 10 years now. :smiles:

Back when I looked at the leister, there weren’t many others available in the UK. At least what I was aware of…
There was a similar type style machine to your but for "hemming tape". There was also the more traditional machines for stitching the hems.
The thing I didn’t like, from what I saw, was how BIG banners would be fed into the hemming machines, similar style to yours. By that I mean, if you have a 20ft square banner, how easy is that to handle the banner and feed through the throat of your machine while keeping it accurate and moving consistently?
This was why I thought using the small portable one as I went for, would be more practical for the large banners.

I have seen some high-frequency clamping type welders that I thought looked good. like everything, I guess there will be pros-and-cons.
