  • Help!!! What am I doing Wrong with This Logo In Corel!!

Posted by Paul Humble on November 25, 2008 at 10:50 am

Ive been given a customers logo to design a Pan Fasia for them. Ive never really needed to do vectorising before and when I have done I have just sent it to Vectorwise. This one looked simple enough but its turning out to not be the case.

Basically, the cut lines from the inner circle are cutting straight through the lettering, it wont let me weld or trim them which is what I thought I needed to do.

Any help would be much appreciated, I dont expect anyone to do it for me, just point me where I need to be to fix the problem.

You can give a man a fish etc.!!

if you break the text and contour apart then you can trim it, right click on it.

    Here you go Hugh,

Im also struggling with the circle in the centre, when I trim the letters to it the end up with an outline rather than just cutting the circle away.

The simple jobs are the ones that try us eh?

you need to combined the circular bits first

    here ya go,

you had a heavy outline on the circle with the arrows, when i tried to weld they simply lost the outline and filled the circle.

so, each item i had to ‘convert outline to object’,
i then took the centre circle and took an internal 5mm contour from it >arrange>break objects apart.

then arrange>weld> select all (both circles) > trim, remove centre circle to leave a outline. .

then group circle and arrows, weld.

    text.
    arrange>break 2 objects apart

colour the contour / outline different and set aside the text.

select contour > arrange > weld,
select contour and circle/arrows, > trim.

remove contour and replace text over.

    job done.

took a bit of fiddling, but done!

    Hugh

    quote Nick Minall:

you need to combined the circular bits first

they were a single line with a 2.8mm outline, the outline needed to be ‘converted to object’, then the centre removed and all welded,

when i tried to combine it made the arrow heads into an outline and the arrow shafts cut into the circle leaving empty squares.

took me a few mins to figure it out!

Not sure what you’re trying to do without seeing a picture or a bitmap Paul but…

You do know you’ve got 2 lots of North Eastern Care don’t you.

And you do know that the curves with arrows and the two circles have not been turned into 1 curve don’t you.

For trimming maybe make a copy of the circle before turning everything else into a curve.

Sorry if I’m heading down wrong track but like I say I’m not sure what result you want.

you’re welcome Paul, I still get stumped now and then, and no doubt do things a longer way than i might need to (without realising!), but i usually get there!

feel free to email anything you’re stuck on, call me and i’ll go through it with you. I was lucky to have a few people explain things to me when i was relatively new to it, sometimes those little things can open a whole new area of corel!
