My big bro’ and I are starting up a new sign & design business in the next month or so and I’m looking for help finding a name. I’ve been wracking my brains for a couple of months now and come up with only a few meagre candidates. What bugs me most is that ALL the necessary paperwork for startups (business and marketing plan, finance and grant apps etc.) all begin with “Business Name.” It’s like a jigsaw missing one last piece and my box is empty.

I’ve decided that there’s a whole lot of very creative, dare I say “arty” people, regulars on this forum, who are much more likely to come up with something relevant and catchy that gives a nice professional ring to it.

Let me give you the low down on what the business is about and I’ll tell you the only name I’ve come up with. Some criticism is welcome. Too much will offend. Not really.

Basically, low key startup aiming to offer sign design, fabrication, installation etc. Just going for a 36” cutter to begin with to be able to operate in the largest part of the market available. On the other side of this business will be an architectural design service through to build. My bro’ is a draughtsman/site agent but has an agreement with a local architectural practice where he designs, pays them a fee and they approve his designs so its all covered legally for planning etc. For that, there’ll be AutoCAD/AEC and a large format plotter (HP 755) and i’ll probably network it all together as we’ve just got broadband.

Brothers’ already served a few years in the sign industry but folded it some 10 years ago. Traditional methods man he was, with his stick that had the little ball type sponge on the end. As I call it, a proper artist, I suppose he’s been called worse. Ooops, on dodgy ground there I guess with the graphic designers. It was probably that that led to the business floundering. Well, that and the fact he couldn’t spell! Poor beggar spent two days doing an Artic, “PEMBROKSHIRE AGRICULTURAL”, yes, it was meant to be “PEMBROKESHIRE…”

    Me, I’m an IT bod.

Anyway, my idea for a name was…

Aardvark Design Services – logo to be a nice bright cartoon aardvark maybe holding a sign with the name on.

    Great aint it?

So, now you can see why I need a hand…I set a very low standard and fail to acheive it!

How about “IT Signs” , “Sign IT” or “Signs Online”

By the way – spelling’s not a problem in this business – it’s never held Rob back 😉

Whatever you think of someone else will already be called the same.

I have a customer that can’t spell. (like a lot of us) 🙄

When having the pee taken out of him by some of his chaps for his inability, he explained to them that it was true he couldn’t spell but he sure knew how to sign a p45. (:)

I like Aardvark…Good for the telephone directories too. For an ides go online and look up yellow pages ads overseas for sign companies. You’re bound to find a good one that isn’t registered in the UK. Pinch the bloody thing.

My business name came to me in a flash of idiocy…I like plays on words So I was looking at Graphic and trying to figure what other words it sounds like. I ended up with Graffic Jam. I had to add Autographics to the end of it to get it registered.

Yes I was sitting in the car at a slow set of lights when the name hit me.

    Graffic Jam
    Traffic stopping signs and designs.

Aardvard………why the long face mate ?
You could always try the plumbers approach……….

AAAAA AAAAA AAAAA1 signs……..seriously, as the previous post recommednds, go along with the prefix A route, something like Astra, Astral, Astrix Adept, Accomplished, I’m sure you get the drift.

    Best Wishes on your venture.
