    Hi Kevin,

MacTac 9800 is a good all round vinyl and there’s no technical reason why you can’t apply it to the outside of the window…

…but there are the obvious questions to be asked when doing so – like, will ‘little fingers’ try to interfere with it? or will it get damaged by passers-by and those knocking against it?

At the end of the day this is something you have to ask the customer – if it’s their fault you can’t get to the window – or they’re being unhelpful then you have to make them aware of the possible consequences. If you’re just panicking because you’re new to all this and don’t want to ‘bother’ them – then think again…just explain to them that they need to arrange access to the inside window for you, even if this means re-scheduling the visit.

Always remember – don’t let someone else’s problem become your problem – shove it back at ’em! 😉

Hope I havn’t missed the mark with this:-?

Thanks for the reply Mike,Just me being a big soft geordie and worrying in advance in case it had to be removed later,ie applying heat could crack the glass, anyway will crack on with the job and maybe post it,be warned its my first PROPER JOB but im sure it will all be level
    THANKS

    No worries Kevin…

Just clean the glass, apply the vinyl and walk away…when it comes to removing it – normally a big flat-blade scraper would be used without any heat…

good luck – and don’t worry. If it all goes t*ts up – it’s only a bit of sticky plastic and you can always do it again! 😛

One word of warning though…be careful how you mark out your glass. A common mistake is forgetting where some of your crayon marks are on the glass and then accidentally applying the vinyl over them. You won’t notice anything wrong from your side of the glass – but they can be seen clearly from the other side sandwiched between the glass and the vinyl – too late!

You can always mark up the glass on the other side of the glass – but as you say this isn’t an option in this case.

Another way to avoid this problem is to use pieces of masking tape on the glass to mark your baselines, margins etc and make your crayon marks directly onto the tape. In this way all the marks come off with the tape as the job proceeds… 😉

    Hi Kevin,

I’d go with mikes advice, make sure you explain the possible problems to your customer possibly even go as far as doing a small disclaimer and getting them to sign it before going ahead with the work outside.
