  • Help, this version of Signlab is driving me potty!

Posted by J. Hulme on May 12, 2003 at 10:05 am

    Hi
Should be an easy thing to do, it is in e6!

I’ve bought another version of signlab for another machine( don’t ask why, I’m not impressed with it at all)

    ES composer!

All I want to do is put my cadlink .VEF fonts in there.
There is the normal search function which says locate cadlink VEF fonts and I can find them within this, Install,
Yes everything goes fine, does that very nicely.
    Are the fonts there?
What do you think? no way.

    Am I missing something here?
or is this software even worse than at I first believed

    Help!

I think its going to have to be a case of a refund, Mr Cadlink.

I don’t have 6 but in 5 you go to font detective and select them in there, click on each font group in turn (or All Fonts) click select and they should be there.

Cheers Steve, I will give that a go
I seem to recall playing with font detective when I first installed it,
and it deleted all the fonts, or maybe that was Coreldraw?
I can get TT fonts and Corel fonts in no problems,

    I’ll have another look.

    Cheers

    Nope, still no luck!

Are these VEF fonts compatible with this version?
    Can anyone help??

So when you look in Cadlink/Signlab e6/fonts, there are no fonts in the folder? That’s where they should end up.
You might have to do a re-install, then during the install when you are asked if you want to install fonts, select yes and install ALL.
Although the font paths get written to the .ini file, I think this info gets locked in the registry causing confusion.

You can’t use VEF fonts in ES composer 🙄

Hi I’m thinking of starting up a “Signlab e6” UN-appreciation society would anybody out there like to sign up.
I’ve been using Signlab for over 10 years and have always thought it to be a great (but expensive) piece of kit. We now have 3 copies of Signlab e6 here and everybody using it (including myself) hates it. I can’t believe they can put out a product with so many bugs in and claim that there is nothing wrong with it.
I demonstrated some of the weird and wonderful things this software does and doesn’t do to the rep that sold the upgrades to us and he went away with promises of patches to correct the faults. Came back with the line that I am using the latest patch already so that’s that.
    C’est la vie

Imagine if you bought it when first released.
Typical of software producers to release a half built program in order to get us mugs to test it out for them.
They forget that we are trying to earn a living.
I live and breathe Signlab but only as far as Version 5.

Here’s a taste of just how many bugs there were in e6.

You can’t use VEF fonts in ES composer 🙄

    Great News!!

Bought nearly another grands worth of signlab and it doesn’t support
its own signlab / cadlink fonts. How damn ridiculous!
    Its a complete con.

I was conned by the selling dealer with the original purchase of this software a few weeks ago who sold me a cheaper package ensuring it would do what I wanted.

When I complained it was utterly useless and wouldn’t contour cut I had to pay another £400 upgrade for just the contour cut.

Even no accuscan, this version hasn’t anything worth praising.
I can do all this and more in coreldraw.
Which I will continue to use and try to sell this rubbish.

But the dongle lights up a nice red.
    Thanks cadlink.
I’ve bought an expensive USB LED that’s even more useful than your software.

    Never again.

    Yes Peter, they’re all there.
the whole lot, everything TT, Corel, .VEF
    I have e6 and that’s all OK
But this is a cheaper ( but not at all cheap) version

One now assumes this version of Conlab doesn’t support
    its own fonts (:) conlink

Hi I’m thinking of starting up a “Signlab e6” UN-appreciation society would anybody out there like to sign up.
I’ve been using Signlab for over 10 years and have always thought it to be a great (but expensive) piece of kit. We now have 3 copies of Signlab e6 here and everybody using it (including myself) hates it.

I’m really quite happy with e6.
Useless text to arc and strange how the measurements / dimensions decide to change everytime you open up the file, but that’s the only problem I’ve had.
I can’t understand how software designed for this use can’t do a text to arc with a simple dragged node box??

I get customers supplying me (printed) artwork produced in a cheap £20 m$ publisher style program with great text to arc and I think, oh no, not the signlab text to arc again, pleeeese!

The other version I was referring to..Now that’s just complete and utter expensive rubbish, text to arc does seem to work better on the earlier version that doesn’t justify its price.

eBay for it next week methinks.

    Outline..

I would have a word direct with Cadlink if I were you. Did the dealer you bought the software from inform you that you were entitled to 40% off a second copy of Signlab? I assume you paid around £625 for ES composer? Are you saying you paid another £400 on top of that to be able to contour cut?

ES composer is a very basic version of Signlab, it sounds like you have been misinformed by your dealer rather than conned by Cadlink. Obviously I don’t know what Signlab packages you have but it may have been possible to get something like Signlab Expert for £1500 less 40%, this would do a hell of a lot more than the package you have and would have cost less too.

    Hi Brian,

I bought it for a seperate machine and PC,
I was told lite would be perfect, print and cut, it didn’t.
    Cost £323.13

Same day I was then told I’d have to upgrade to composer for contour cut.
    Cost an extra £381.88
Total £705.01 for Composer- without accuscan-!!

I was never told about 40% discount and this is the second copy of Signlab and the second machine I’ve bought off the same dealer within a year.
Emailed Cadlink today. I’m expecting either some money back or an e6
package as I’m not going to let this rest. I was misinformed from the start

Never again, its the last money of mine that particular dealer gets.

I’ve now put an extra parallel port in,
Cost £20 and run both machines from e6,
    Could have saved myself £685.01

    Composer?
well last time I saw it, it was in its box somewhere, near the bin.

    Cheers

I had a demo of e6 from sign uk, given out by cox`s.

I was quite impressed. Although some of the designs shown on the demo, you might never use.
