hi all as you know I,m more into di-bond trays but I,m removing a 5mm foam panel from a pantrim ali frame. I will be replacing with 3mm di- bond will i need to put some strips at the back to fill the di-bond out ???

    yes and no

if you are going to "hang" the dibond then yes, if just sliding it in then no, the gap is 6mm so with a hanging strip it can fall to the bottom.
I would still pack it out though, so it doesnt rattle too much

I just wanted to slide the panel in and the old one didnt have a hanging strip I was going to pack it out but was thinking of using double sided tape but again this would add more to the depth, or i could use that carpet tape which is very thin
any advice its like being a newbie 😀 😀 😀

you could alternatively hang it using an 8-10mm strip so it cant fall out

Sorry Rich, a piece of 2mm packing then is all you need to stop it "rattling" or a strip of foamex from the old sign, placed behind the dibond, horizontally, to push it against the front rail.

    drop 800mm
    x 2 pieces at 2500mm each total 5000mm
frame is all ok just removed the foam and cut the di bond to same size

at 800 deep in one bit you would get away with loading it without packers.
however, over that length and in two bits you will probably have issues with the join being flush.
if you cut 3 to 4 strips say 2" wide by 800deep and double sided tape them with something like tesa tape to the rear of "each" panel. just one each end of each panel in about 3 inches from end. and one in the middle it should go in with a bit of flexing. alternatively slide the panels in without the strips but then chap a strip in at the start of the sign, then a 6inch wide by 800 deep in the middle/join overlapping each panel, slide the next panel in overlapping that join strip… then again at the end, chap in another strip.

    (hope that made sense) :lol1:

a way around it for me would be to cut strips of 2mm aluminium as the strips and stick them to he back. but easy for me to say as i have a guillotine but a metal blade in a jigsaw would do the trick as its not going to be seen being a packer.

    Just to double check
if i do cut 2500mm x say 60mm for packing strips and glue them on to the rear of the di bond will the 6mm thickness not be to tight as i dont have the frame to hand to check

if i had to guess, ide say yes, the panel will slide in complete with the packer straps. panatrim flexi’s so does have a bit of give.
if i was in your position, ide NOT glue but double sided tape them. tesa tape "i think" can be bought from b&q warehouse. its very strong and thin, like selotape. ide cut the straps and apply the tape to the starps but not the sign.
take them seperate to the job.
before loading, hold two of the straps together and see if they slide into the trim. if they do, peel and stick the straps in place on the sign, and slide the panels in, job done.
if its a bit too tight… ide slide panels in and chap the packers in after without the need of the tape.

    hope that makes sense :lol1:

    Hi Richard,

Sorry to butt in here, but I came across one of your posts a while ago where you mentioned a tutorial or something that showed you making dibond trays.

Could you point me to that please, because I haven’t been able to find it, and I am interested in learning more.

    Regards, Roger.
