help please with ‘some system windows too big’ message?

have you tried a reboot? or do you have anther pc you can get the fonts from?

Reeboot done, lost the fonts then reinstalled. This happened a couple of months ago, and just worked round by guessing where the buttons were. Ive just installed WinPlot and thought it was time to get it sorted. My Brother is tech support for the Aberdeenshire schools and he has taken me through Regedit to no avail!!!

Thought Id open it up to any gurus out there!!!

Thanks Nick for the prompt!!! didnt need to go as far as a re-install, I found a suitable system restore point………..just got to locate what installation files I have lost……….Thanks

Right click on desktop>>> then properties tab >>>>> then appearance tab >>>> then advanced button >>>> then where you see the drop down menu on the left box you get the option to customise everything from font size to border size on the windows etc, select the rogue items and either change their size or substitute them.

Thanks steve, tred all that, seemed to be a little more elusive hence the trip into the system registry. It was only certain system generated windows that caused problems. Restoring to a previous known date seems to have cured the problem.

In that case try a windows repair, not a reformat but a repair, you go through just like a format but you just reinstall the operating system instead of wiping anything.
just set your CD drive to boot first rather than have your floppy or HDD to be 1st boot device, then stick the windows xp cd in, will take 39 minutes and you should be sorted with all missing files back in the registry and system folders.
Just make sure you dont make it to the format screen and press the L button LOL :lol1:

It also sounds like his monitor resolution is too low. So he needs to go Start menu >> Control Panel >> Display >> Settings tab, and adjust the Screen resolution.

Thanks for the replies………the problem was much bigger than simple settings. It seemed to be that certain system fonts had been substituted for some giants causing the dialog windows to be super sized.

I successfully ran a Windows restore to a date before my troubles began and it has cured the super size effect.
