  • help please with avery reflective problem?

I did a couple of jobs before chrismas with avery2420 yellow reflective, Within a week it started to lift from the car, especially from the bumpers. Altough plastic they were colour coded to the car, and are not normally a problem. I didnt know if there was a problem with residue or something so I had to redo it on new years eve. I have since talked to the supplier and I am not the only one this has happened to. Any one else use this reflective and had recent problems?
I stuck some on foamex when I redid the car, and yesterday it lifted of like cling film! Pity it dosn’t come of like this normally.
There is no argument with the supplier as they will replace the vinyl and cost of redoing. Just to warn others to save embarrasment with customers.

I was a loyal Avery customer till just this past November.
It seems that they had a problem with their adhesive in the A8 series,
particularly those which were delivered to suppliers East of the Mississippi.
Many many friends on USA sign forums have reported lifting and glue halos
    after just a short time.
I noticed little glue “boogers” on the edges of my Avery.
In our country, Avery has not been very up-front about this problem.
Many signfolks are losing business and having to re-do recent jobs over this.
There has been talk of legal action too.
I am now afraid to buy a product that I used happily for years,
and at the same time I am waiting to get bitten by complaints
from jobs I did last year with Avery.
Neither one of my suppliers was aware of this problem,
and are more than likely still selling defective Avery A8.
I would email Avery directly to see what they say.
    Good luck.
    Love….Jill

I had the exact same problem as Peter about 2 years ago with Avery XR1000 reflective. All the corners curled up on a vehicle chevron kit. I never did hear what their reply was to the complaint.

i made a post on the site a few months ago regarding Avery vinyl.
this was “i think” when the beginning of folk starting to have problems in the states. i heard it on letterheads…
i was going to, and may still do, make a news feature of it on this site, because lets face it, if sign makers are being led a merry dance on a faulty batch, then its NEWS & we should all know about it.
for so many folk to be getting the same problems & even Avery admitting there “is” a problem something should be done.

it may have changed by now, but the situation was that some folk would “maybe” be getting replacement rolls for the faulty ones? 😕
    not good enough Avery! 👿

i was stung by a supplier in the past that supplied foamex and gave 5 year guarantee in writing for it.
end of the day, when it failed a few months later they sent us 40 3mx2m sheets of perspex, but then went bust before paying us for expences…
we had rebranded many depots of new signage for a big customer that we “HAD” to do again….

same thing here… the sign maker letters up van after van over a period of a couple of months, not to mention all the signs…
he then gets steady flow of customers coming back complaining of problems with the vinyls…
he is faced with having to strip, clean and redo “all” the work for nothing…. not to mention the embarrassment or how his reputation will be tarnished.
he turns to his supplier & is told… oh sorry.. here is a couple of rolls of vinyl to replace the faulty ones!

    not good enough. 😕

Avery sell a different range of vinyl in the US to what they sell in Europe. As far as I know, all Avery ‘signmaking vinyl’ products sold in Europe are made in Europe – and so European users of Avery ‘signmaking vinyl’ products should not have to worry about problems reportedly experienced by users of US manufactured Avery products. It is possible that the Avery reflective products sold in Europe are manufactured in the US – your supplier should be able to tell you the answer to that question, or just look at the printing on the liner paper – if it is the same as the ‘signmaking vinyl’ products then it’s most likely that it too is manufactured (adhesive coated) in Europe.
    Hope that this helps.
