  • help please applying vinyl onto curtain sides?

Posted by George Elsmore on May 3, 2005 at 2:56 pm

Hi, has anyone attempted to put vinyl text on a curtain sider and if so what were the results like as in:

    1. will it deteriorate with opening and closing of the curtains?
    2. Is there a vinyl on the market especially for this?
    3. can it be applied whilst curtain is on vehicle?

any input would be great thanks

    George

    Hi George,
I know there is special vinyl for curtain sides. If you do a search on here you will probably find your answers. If not I am sure someone will post the info. I have no experience with it, so I will let others tell you.

Most manufactures do a curtain vinyl, don’t use banner vinyl, its not up to the job,
It can be applied it situe, but curtains must be squeeky clean, And a good tip is to wedge a sheet of plywood on the inside of the truck/trailer.

Best material is 3M Fasflex which you direct print onto but his is very expensive. (44ft byt 10ft approx £2000 per side)

Yes you can put banner vinyl on curtainsiders, we have 44ft versions in the field that have been on for two years. (you can probably quote whole 44footer for £1700) you have to advise that this is the cheap option and lifetime cannot be guaranteed)

If the guy already has his curtains he probably wont want to buy new ones

You can also stencil the outline and spray with special ink used for fasflex material

As long as you explain to the customer what you are offering and the impications you should be OK

If anyone knows any better always willing to listen, quoting this week 16 sides @ 44ft by 10ft complete curtainsiders with digital print

There are only two main curtain vinyl manufacturers other than 3M, which, as Adrian said is very expensive any I think only white?
The two main’s are Avery and APA

There is another way….. get someone to print direct to curtain, assuming that they need the curtains too? Getting more up against these companies now who will offer full digi upon manufacture of the curtain when the trailer is built.

    Hi Rising

Sorry I wasnt specific, we are quoting for supply of curtains with graphics printed on, to me this is the only way to quote the job. I was just saying that there are other ways of doing it

Sorry Guys, maybe its me not being clear the customer already has the curtains on his vehicle and wants to sign it, I have tried banner vinyl before on a previous job and it did not last 5 mins so I want to apply a vinyl that is made for the job. Is this vinyl mentioned above suitable for solvent printing? Hope this is clearer 😳

    Thanks All

😕 We’ve never had a problem with banner vinyl on cutain sides (we use Ri-mark vinyls)

A good thing to do is hold a foamex board against the side from inside, rather than take the curtain off.

Avery and APA are the most common curtain vinyls used that i know of.
for digital “solvent” printing… have never tried but maybe worth asking for a sample to give it a go. obviously profiles will come in to play & may need tweaked a bit.
