  • help needed to identify substrate

Posted by Shawn Bentley on June 29, 2017 at 5:31 pm

hi all. need some help to identify a piece of substrate, its been called 3.5mm white PS (recycled core).
anyone here heard of this, its been printed direct to substrate and is being quoted at a very cheap price.
I’ve attached a pic for reference. its quite a heavy substrate and seems to have a sandwich style look with compressed hard material in the middle and layer of white (printable both sides) to the outers.
    any help appreciated.
    thanks in advance.

Hi Robbie thank u for that, not that I’m afraid, it’s really high density board and quite heavy, I think it’s a recycled board. It’s really hard to show I pic but when trying to cut it or slice a bit off edge it’s very pvc plastic like. Thanks in advance.

I agree with rob on Kappa
I enquired about it through pyramid but you need a minimum order 18 sheets
    not sure about other suppliers
they also do their own brand much cheaper and they split packs
    Pyramid Foam Centered Board
    Caliper: 5mm
    Size: 1016 x 1524mm
    Price: £4.77 per sheet
    kappa is about £14a panel
    derek

it might be the pyramid equivalent

Derek, the Kappa at 5mm is 8ft x 4ft mate, but your correct, 18 per pack minimum order.

Shaun, Kapa is like a very dense light weight foam with cartridge paper on front and rear. kinda feels that way anyway..
its strong and very light, easy to cut with a stanley knife but equally easy to bust a corner of the board if dropped on it.

I am surprised it costs as much as the likes of Correx sheet at same size and thickness.

Hi rob I’ve got that board but this is quite heavy and better cut by saw, it’s very compressed it’s like a very heavy foamex but more compressed and header to cut

Brett Martin do a recycled core board similar to that but the core is nearly black, with a brilliant white face on both sides for print etc.

If the edges are very sharp when cut with a knife, then you may be looking at GatorBoard.

Very dense and hard for a foam board. I last got some from http://www.johnpurcell.net/
