  • Help needed sourcing Glossy Photo Paper and advice, please?

    Hello
We have a Roland 300i running versaworks, does anyone know of a supplier that has a Glossy Photo Quality paper for this machine please?
One of our customers would like a photo montage of their family printing and framing.

Looking around on the net, there seems to be some discussion as to whether or not the 300i can do quality photographs, does anyone have experience (good or bad) they can share please, it would save me a lot of time and cost, if they could?

    Thanks

Those printers are very capable of doing glossy prints. If it has to be on paper then search for a satin solvent paper. Otherwise, just use gloss vinyl?

Try Nick at signmaster systems they sell a 200gsm satin poster paper we use it and get great results with our roland xr640 mention I sent you to him

if it has to be high gloss I would print onto a self adhesive vinyl.

Try giving Papergraphics a call, sorry can’t remember the number, I run an aqueous machine so can’t comment on solvent paper but they stock both aqueous & solvent based materials. Always been very helpful when I have needed to speak to them.

Thanks everyone for the great replies, I’ve tried the Blueback Satin Paper (120gsm) and that is very good with full colour images, and the thicker satin (200gsm) Poster paper, but never found a Gloss Photographic paper that you can get on a Reel. The Gloss Vinyl idea is a great suggestion, I might just give that a try as well.

Have just done our first run of shaped vinyl stickers on high tack vinyl, which the customer was very pleased with, this Roland is turning out to be the best machine we have ever bought in terms of diversity of jobs it can do…

Metamark do a photo paper for solvent inks which is glossy. If you call them they will let you have a metre or so to try.

Thanks Gary, I gave Metamark a call…and they have stopped selling the Gloss version of the poster paper, I already get their excellent satin paper, so I was also hoping for a Gloss version…what threw me was if you search on Google for it, it still comes up on the Metamark website (Profiles List) as a Gloss finish…lol

I printed photos for a photographer on a versacamm Sp540i with a high quality paper from papergraphics.
They looked really good to me…but the photographer wanted the printer to do the same job as a dark room which was never going to happen…even tho I told him so…he changed his mind and didn’t take the order…so id say…it really depends on how fussy the customer is…this bloke is ex military too… my instincts said all along not to bother…but I like to try and now I have lovely paper for not so particular customers and they are happy…

Thanks Cheryl, The thing is, I could probably buy in the photograph printed on a top of the range Kodak Photo Press for about a tenner…lol
But I will have to check out papergraphics and see if they can do rolls in my width 760 or will condiser cutting down the wider rolls.

    cheers
