  • HELP:- In need of roller bearings for RockhopperII

Posted by darran Mead on October 26, 2010 at 6:52 pm

Hi All and hoping someone can help.
It has been one of them days when you should have just stayed in bed.
2 deliveries did not arrive and have jobs for clients to get finished.
Then our Mutho Rockhopper II starts to make a noise.

Upon inspection we found the one of the roller bearings on the top of the print head cartridge (the one top left as you look from the front that fits in the grove on the main rail) as collapsed and is just sliding along the rail.

I have looked all over the internet to try and find a replacement but without any luck.

Can anyone help me out or point me in the direction of a good engineer in the Nottingham aria of the UK.

I need to get this repaired a.s.a.p as this printer has work to do.

    Regards to you all.

    Evening Peter.
Thank you, yes i have contacted them but they thought i was after an head adapter, cross lines in the description i think. i have emailed them again but no reply as yet.

they quoted me 18 $ for the part and 50 $ shipping. for the add apter.

It is the small roller bearing i need that hold the print carriage on the top of the main rail. (what is the odds on getting one without spending £££ for a new carriage and getting it fitted).

    Hi. Chris.
Just got in the office and found your reply.
I have done just that. But found that it is an odd size (as it would be).
But the kind man in the shop did some ringing around; in the end he managed to find the only company in the UK that make that size.
So they will be with me in the morning.

And at only £3.48 = vat

I did get an email from (tech8) and they have the full set (8) for £30 = vat

So i can hopefully get the printer back online in the morning and then play catch-up with the orders. I always said we should have a backup solvent printer.

Thanks to all who gave advice and help. (Very good forum)

Keep an eye on it once it’s up and running again, you might have been better getting the full set of 8 and for £30 it’s not expensive.
Don’t know the set up or how bad this bearing was but it is quite possible that damage has been done to other bearings if they were overloaded or the failure of this bearing could be down to some other factor like excessive wear elsewhere. Have a good listen for anything strange when you fire it up and keep an eye on it for a few hours once its going again. Best of luck with it.

    Hi Martin.
I have had a good look at the other ones i cannot visually see any wear on them the top of the main rail looks fine as well.
good thing that it was shut down as soon as the noise was heard or it might have damaged the runner on the main rail.
As soon as we get a second solvent printer i will get all 8 replaced. £30.00 ish is better that £1000.0 for a new rail.

Thank you all for the help the information and the suggestions.
The printer is now back up and running. Had a hard time finding some new E-clips (that hold the bearing in place) as only 2mm.

The only other thing was. Just after 3 days with out the printer running the Black and Magenta were not getting to/through the print head.
So it was clean after clean to get it going.

So any way that you to you all.

(Any one no of a second user Roland print cutter 1600 + for sales)

They have a good service and while not the cheapest they are still cheap.
