  • Help! How do I resize part of a layout for printing to an A4

Posted by RayRosher on March 5, 2010 at 10:25 pm

    Hi all
Is their a way in Flexisign8 to zoom in and print out a zoomed area,
    I have a customer,
I’m dong some vinyl lettering for his van,
However when i print out the finished job it’s far to small to see even at A4,

I’m using impacts vehicle outlines And was wondering if their is a way to just print out part of the layout to full size A4
The only way i can print out at the moment, Is to print all of the layout, ie Roof, Both sides, Front and back doors,
    Can anyone help. Thanks Ray:)

    Hi Ray,

If its just for a client visual how about zooming in flexi to the bit you want to send, then do a windows screengrab. Paste it into photoshop and crop any unwanted bits, windows start bar that sort of thing and then print.

Sure a flexi user might have a better idea but at least it gets the job out.

I would ungroup all delete all bits you dont want to print then print.but make sure you have saved before you start to delete

Select what you want to print then export as jpeg but make sure the selection only box is ticked and suppress options is unticked now save it and you should get a compression option then after that you can set the size and the dpi, version 8 may well be different though but worth a try.

If you’ve ungrouped the van outline you could just delete the rear, roof etc and just print each side separately.

Get the freeware screen capture utility MWSnap300.
You can capture a window, a screen, or any part of a screen you select.
Just zoom in on your artwork then region select the bit you want to create a jpg from.
The program doesn’t even require installation – it just runs in ram.
Only 643Kb. Wouldn’t be without it although I do have a better paid for program as well now called Fullshot http://www.inbit.com/fullshot.html

    Get MWSnap300 here:
    Home Page:

    Download:

Because it’s a 2 click process to get exactly the bit of screen you want.

    Windows print screen:
    Press printscrn button.
    Open graphics program.
    Paste in file.
    Crop.
    Save to a directory.

    MWSnap:
    Marquee and click.
    Save to a directory.
    Job done.
You can even set it to auto save.

Don’t know Flexi but you would still have to paste in the file, crop and export.

Not sure if this is what you wanted but:

If you add the file to production manager and go the the 5th tab over (tile) then just crop the area you want to print. As long as you were at 100% size then you can crop one area (it will tell you the size you are at) and just print that area. Move the crop around and print another area etc.

This is a good way to see an actual size of just a small area.

You’ll be amazed how many times you use this for producing artwork visuals.

Actually your spot on Peter! As that was one of the first things that ran through my head after I installed it.
    Nice one Thanks Ray:)

When i want to print a particular part of the design i set the page size in flexisign to A4. Then i arrange exactly what i want to print within the a4 page, deleting any unwanted bits and export it as a pdf.
I then open the pdf up and print that. I just find it easier to create a pdf and keep it as a record of what i’ve printed, also if i then need to print it again i’ve already got it saved as a pdf.

I know i’ve typed pdf a lot of times, but it’s what works best for me.
