  • Help finding a telescopic tension mounted rail

Posted by Warren Beard on September 26, 2012 at 12:54 pm

    Hi

I need to hang some double sided banners in a recces area but am not allowed to make any holes in the wooden frames so was thinking of a tension rail similar to how you could hang a curtain or shower curtain (hopefully you know the kind I mean)

The banners (I’ll use lighter fabric banners) are going to be quiet big at about 1.2m wide x 2.4m high and double sided (draped over pole)

Anybody done something like this or know where I can get heavy duty ones or any other bright ideas I could consider?

    cheers

If I’m grasping what you’re trying to say right, then what about one of those chin up bars you get that go in doorways!!

length of tube with threaded inserts & adjustable feet, you can also use a couple of bits of rubber in between the feet & wood to stop any indents in the wood.
All parts are listed on the links

Hope there’s nobody going to be walking below it if you’re using a steel bar! 😮 🙁

This might not be wide enough, but food for thought.

only needs to be light weight tube and could just as easily be thick wall plastic tube and if fitted correctly will take considerable force to move

Yes, agreed. A plastic tube if ridgid enough to hold the pressure might be best. But personally I wouldn’t have too much faith in my insurance company paying up if it was a steel bar and it clobbered somebody. The problem I see unless you can get a lot of pressure on it like these chin bars do, is expansion/contraction. If there’s a lightwieight spring loaded telescopic rail out there then that’s what I’d try first. Maybe a shower rail like this one – dead cheap too.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, these will work perfect and have managed to find some steel tubes to use too, These are actually going in to a deep window recess (about 300mm deep) so should be fine, the decision at the end of the day is down to the customer as they will be changing the banners every few months.

    Cheers

Job done, thanks to Kev for the link for the adjustable ends and found a supplier for suitable poles. Worked very well and looks good and customer extremely happy.

Once tightened I couldn’t move with my arm strength, I didn’t hang on it as I’m a big lad and I’ll drop anything :lol1:

Added a piece of 5mm PVC foamboard with VHB tape as a double safety feature for peace of mind.

    Thanks for the help guys

    cheers

    Warren
