  • Help and advice on Method Statements

Posted by Gary Birch on April 10, 2009 at 8:27 am

    Hi All
We have a job at the end of this month where we have to provide risk assessments and method statements. The risk assessments I am comfortable with but with the method statement is something new.

Can anyone give me any guidelines of what I need to give for the job. In a nutshell the job we are doing consists of the installation 3 x back lit fret cut trays, clip frames and other pos and a foamex graphic. Do I have to give a method statement for each part of the job or will one cover all??

Any help or advice will be much appreciated on this as I cannot find any samples of method statements for our line of work.

    Thanks in advance

I bet you’d be annoyed if a web designer was making free signs 🙂

your Method statement is as simple as explaining what & how you are going to do it. This is personalised to each job.

1.Arrive at site and sign in
2.Clear work area & cordon off
    3.Erect scaffold using qualified personnel
4.Remove existing signage using a combination of tools (cordless drill, hammer, crowbar)
    etc etc

    Last points being
Clean work area of all Debris, Equipment & tools
    Sign Out

You can write it as a paragraph or points ensuring that you cover all H&S areas etc. You will find it helpful to get to grips with it yourself hope his helps

That’s basically what we used to do for site work, it is just a simple as outlining what your going to do, they then read it, if their happy you can go ahead BUT you have to follow it on site so don’t make it up.

    Hi Gary,

I’ve had to do quite a few of these. They are always a bit of a pain but don’t need to be too in depth.

I can email you a word template i set up if it’ll help.

Thanks again for the offer but I think with what I have from Graeme and Brad it is enough for me to draw something up myself which is going to be satisfactory to the client.

    Cheers
