  • Hello, Great Site!

Posted by Ramj on January 2, 2005 at 10:13 pm

Hi, I’m new (that was a bit obvious I know)

I’ve been reading these forums for a while, and I thought I’d better join, to join in on some of the great discussions and thank everyone for making it such a nice place to visit.

My name’s Rob-Anthony James, (actually, it’s Robert Anthony Mannion James, with or without hyphens) and I’m an alcoholi…oops, wrong place.

I’m 20, and I’ve been working as a sign maker for about 6 months now (hence my “year in industry” says 0 so far) I find the work both challenging, exciting and fascinating. I have worked with vinyl mostly, but have recently worked with LED’s, which was illuminating (sorry :รพ ).
I bore my friends talking about this sort of stuff all the time,

I use SignLab V6, Corel Draw (via work) and Photoshop/Illustrator(self-taught) in conjunction with my trusty Wacom Tablet. (Intuos 2 at home, Intuos 3 for work).

I really want to branch out from the usual jobs I get though, and would love to find out more about vehicle-wrapping, I’m not exactly sure how I’d go about it , being as I am, fairly inexperienced. Plus I never get jobs that need such a service, which doesn’t help. ๐Ÿ™„ I’ve found these boards a great help with helping me move into different areas.

So, again, Hello and thank you!!!

Thanks a lot, I’m guessing you’re behind this site? Nice work, I’m going to go check out some of the member only content in a second

I’ve made a few websites in my time and they’ve always been too vague to get these sorts of crowds, I also understand that unknown people who come a few times then disappear is extremely annoying, I love the “headshot only” avatar rule, I either have tiny pre-made ones (batch-processing on photoshop is great) or none at all.

So I’m trying to be good and updating my profile already.

Btw, my current website is not fully up yet, it’s just wordpress and looks dire, so please no-one judge my website abilities from that ๐Ÿ˜€

***saying all that, I almost made the very newbie-ish mistake of creating a new topic to reply. ouch***

wow, herefordshire, that’s only a stone’s throw away from here.

    when I say stone’s throw, I mean…
a very small fast radio controlled stone, launched out of sometype of missile-launcher…

    or taped to a pigeon.

Thanks for the warm welcome, I’m already starting to see who are the “regular regulars” ๐Ÿ˜€

    oh, and thanks Dewi,

yeah, my name is long, but without the two middle names, it’s extremely boring. plus It’s the same as my dad’s, proving that although you may not think it, he DOES have a sense of humour.

I don’t mind people making fun of me being welsh, I know they’re just jealous ๐Ÿ˜› (yeah as if)

Are you under 5′ aswell Rob (I mean Newport Rob…. who is only a stone tied to a pigeon missile launched at very high speed away from me) :lol1: ๐Ÿ˜‰ Or are you taller than wee diddy breezer drinking Robert Lambie ๐Ÿ˜› :lol1:

Hahaha, I just spat out the tea I was drinking at that. :lol1: great use of emoticons.

Yeah, tbh I don’t use rob-anthony alot. It’s usually just “Rob”, (definately not “bob”) unless I’m getting things sent to me. I’ve been known as Rob-Junior and Mini-rob on the phone, (which makes perfect sense because I’m the tallest in my household)

but sometimes I need to stand out slightly, so I mix and match, I’ve also just totally negated my first name with “Tony” and stuff occasionally.

It’s all very confusing. Call me whatever you like… to an extent.

    P.s, I like hyphens

Edit ** Carrie, I’m just over 6 foot at the moment, wow, he looks taller in his avatar… but then again that’s just a headshot **

…another welcome from me too :welcome: ๐Ÿ˜€
Sure you’ll fit in just fine round here Rob (hyphens) with that sense of humor ๐Ÿ˜‰
So do you actually work for yourself or for a company ?

I’m employed by a small company, but I don’t want to be representing them/attached to them on this board, if that is ok by everyone. I really like the people I work with, but I like to keep work and fun seperate. and unfortunately signs ARE my idea of fun ๐Ÿ˜•

plus with the meagre amount of knowledge I have, I’m bound to embarrass myself at some point :lol1: I’ll spare any more casualties

plus that “hyphens” thing is great, I may have to adopt it in more places , thanks!!

I agree with this 100% Rob,

I think with your great ๐Ÿ˜› sense of humour, you’ll fit in just fine here.

Don’t worry about asking *dumb* questions tho. I have a firm belief if you don’t ask, you may never know.

They are a great lot here, lots of people have lots of views on the same subject. Been in the game a lot of years, and it is still fun for me too ๐Ÿ˜€ , but I have learnt many things here. We are never too old to learn. Often it is just a matter of looking at something from a different angle.

    Cheers
