    Hi,
My name is Fran and I’m from South Wales.

I started out as a photographer and also spent a few years doing website/graphic design

I am a complete newbie to the sign industry, I bought myself a plotter a year ago as I was on the modified car scene as a photographer and vinyl signage, car wraps and such really interested me.

I have very basic knowledge, basically what I have read on the internet and what I have learnt as I go along. I found a different sign forum first and paid for membership there. I’m looking to learn as much as possible over the next few years as I am hoping to eventually set up my own business. (Set myself a 5 year milestone)

I’m pretty confident with my design skills; the hardest part has been working with vector files so they cut so far. I have only ever used MDP as a supplier however from reading through posts on here and with help from the toolbar I am looking into other suppliers.I have found Ritrama to be the best vinyl I have used so far.

There is so much I need to learn in regards to sign materials, different ways of mounting the different materials, dibond trays etc. I have no idea what half the stuff on the sign supply websites are but I’m hoping I’ll learn as I go.

I have been looking into wrapping courses and have a real interest in traditional sign writing also got a few books on order. I have been trying to find information on sign exhibitions I have seen mentioned on the boards also any help and advice would be much appreciated.

Sorry about the long introduction guys

    Thanks,
    Fran

Thank you for that, that’s the site I have been looking for, and in regards to the traditional sign writing section I have found it extremely useful already, I have some lettering books on order and I have found lots on the best brushes to start with on here so I shall be having a bash at that soon.

My neighbour was a traditional coach painter back in the day and his portfolio of work is fabulous but unfortunately he is now very elderly.
