    Hi there everyone

Just joined up and thought I’d say hi

I got told about this website today and it looks great so far for info and problem solving 😀

I’ve been unemployed for around a year now after having to give up my IT job and look after my kids, I’ve got £3k to spend on a home business.

I was going to buy my equipment to start doing tshirts next week but now I’m not sure lol, I want to print onto different colour tshirts

I’ve already got a market by doing specialised tshirts for people in my football supporters club so just need the equipment

Looking to start sublimation and I’ve got £3k to start

    Was going to get
    Epson 1290s with bulk feed
Digital Combo DC16 multipurpose swing-away heat press from RASmart

Anyone give me info cos I want to get things up and running asap

Hello JWilson (Mr or Mrs or Miss or All?) 😀

    Welcome to the boards!!

Thanks for the intro … its always nice when a new peep takes the time to say hellllloooooo!!!

Im afraid I cant give you any advice or info on sublimination printing as I dont do any of that but Im sure you should get a few replies …… or try posting your query in the “Printing Forum” too as some peeps dont always read the hello posts … well Im guessing at that though?? We do however do the heat transfer printing where we buy in the garment marking film and heat press it on to the items …. which is ok but not a very big money maker but is something we find handy to offer so havent waved bye-bye to it yet!!

Look forward to seeing you about the place …. ask as many questions as you want, always plenty of peeps about to help out if they can?

Oh and if you plan on sticking round and becoming a regular it would be great if you have a piccie to load 😉 but no pressure of course!!

    :welcome:

hi mate and welcome to the site.

im not an expert in this feild by any means, we stopped doing promotional wear and products many years back to concentrate on signs. we found it was much easier and more rewarding in this line of work.
£3000 sounds a good starting budget, never thought of adding a small cutter to your setup and adding signage to your product list?

thank you for taking the time to say hello 😉

The main reason that I’m thinkin of going into promo wear is because we are payin a fortune for our tshirt at the moment and since all our profits goto helpin the club and charities I thought if I can do it we will save a fortune and it will keep me busy.

I’d like to do more in the future but not sure where to start lol I’d like to do signage…. so a few more £££’s and I could do that aswell then?

So is the DC16 worthwhile getting then?

hi and welcome, bulk printing t-shirts has small profit in Silk Screen as the competition is pretty agressive.

Transfer printing with a heat press is great for good quanties (under 30 maybe), however it is more profitable if your transfers are small pocket prints and not full size ones.

Vinyl cutting method of transfers is a good thing to look at, as this can lead you toward the sign making world. Something these boards will certainly help you with

I will be printing off batches of 100+ and then maybe more personalised ones. I have adobe designs that I will be using for the tshirts and it will be full size designs

Is there a FAQ on tshirt printing?? I want to buy the right stuff first time lol

ok. best bet is to use the “search the boards”, t-shirt printing comes up often.

100+, to be honest with you, if your design doesn’t change between batches then Silk Screen all the way. If you are thinking T-Shirt transfers (heat press, printing them out of an Epson) then look up the prices of a sheet of A3 Transfer Paper, then consider the time it takes to “inkjet print” and apply the image. If you are thinking of professional transfers then these are normally silk screened and then a sealing layer is applied to the top, these can be bought in fairly cheap and then heat applied to the shirts which can be a cheap and quick way of producing durable professional results.

I cant speak much about Sublimination as we don’t do this at the moment, we do however use a modern Epson and print A4 based transfers and they look okay but not top dog. Could be Sublimination but I understood it was using general Epson ink.

Another system I have seen is the magic touch transfer system, if you happen to have a Xerox laser copier (like the DC12 or the DC3535), this produces litho quality output and you can produce stunning output with it, once cut on a plotter and heat pressed, it does create a fantastic result. However Magic Touch transfers can eat into the profits.

If you are spot-colour printing (and matching pantone colours) then silk-screen is the only way.

If your doing photographic results onto t-shirts then UV Screen printing (expensive equipment) and transfer paper route is the options.

If your doing spot related work like “Liverpool FC” across the shoulders in one colour, then Vinyl-type pressing with a heat press and a cutter is good option. However it could take a lot of time weeding the items if they are complicated.

    Just some pointers there.

    Things to consider:

Durability of a print, is it for a one-off event or at least about 20-40 washes in a machine.

Acuracy of colour and brightness of the printed shirt.

Running costs and time it takes to do the job.

Printing white shirts is easy, but Black shirts is another story.

Setup costs, time it takes to setup for a 1off t-shirt and so forth.

Ok I’ve ordered the LIFE TIME Gold membership last night so I can have a decent read of this forum and then decide what route I’m going down.

How long does it normally take to get the full access??

Hi John Wilson…… with a Licence to kill 😉

Memberships are usually sorted within 48 hours as long as everything goes through ok …. card payment, details etc … if it does take a bit longer which it can on ocassions then it is best to contact admin via the contct us page which can be found in the Navigator bar on the left with any further queries regarding membership access.

I think you made a good choice opting for Gold access ….. there is a lot of info available in the forums you will now get access to.

    😀

    Hi John and welcome,
we used to do T shirts etc. but found we didn’t really have the market for them and for us it was more trouble than it was worth, but I’m sure you will be fine, we concentrate more on vehicle graphics,as Carrie said maybe the print forum would be of more use to you. good luck I’m sure we will see you around :lol1:
