Hello from Brighton.
Posted by John Knight on February 1, 2011 at 8:49 amHello everyone, found this site by accident, so being an oldtimer thought
I would join and share anything I can.
I’ve been pushing a brush for nigh on 57 years now, and still do the odd sign to keep my hand in, 70 years of age now.
Don’t do any vinyl but I’m pretty genned up on it and introduced one of the first Gerber machines into Birmingham, where I was born and lived until I came to Brighton 20 years ago.
I’m going to look at a pub today whose owners want new signs in the style of the late 1800’s, they have a photograph showing what they want, should be interesting.
Have a nice day where ever you may be.Duncan Wilkie replied 13 years, 3 months ago 13 Members · 16 Replies -

Hello Warren, I’ll be doing just that as soon as I’ve sorted some photos out, I will have to re-take the older photos on my digital camera.
Regards John. -
Hi John – welcome to the forum which is full of enthusiastic sign makers. I’m sure you have a lot of experience to share. 😀

Morning Phil, yes I could tell a few stories about my time in the sign game.
I will only be too glad to share my experience with any one who wants it. -
Welcome John 😉 That’s some time as a sign writer, just shows what a great profession this is 🙂
I am just happy that vinyl arrived cos I couldn’t do it with brush, I can barely use a pen these days 🙄

Just put my mug shot on, I don’t look like that now, this was 30 years ago, believe it or not it’s the only photo I have of me, taken off an old holiday photo in Malta.

John – I think a few of the ladies on here pull that trick too 😉

Hello John.
I hope you have some pictures of your work, seeing as how you only have one of yourself.
Would love to see what you can do.
I have been painting signs since 1985 but I’m still not very good at it.
Love…..Jill -
Hi John, welcome to the boards.
Be great to see some of your brush work and wow, you’ve been at it a long time.
Don’t believe Jill, she does some great work and has great design skills but she doesn’t
shave that often!!! 😀
Good to have you here ‘old timer’ 😉Neil
