  • Health & Safety Certificates

Hi, I work for a small to medium sized general sign company, and we have been asked by a client to supply Health & Safety Certificates in relation to on site fitting work to be carried out at Motorway Service Stations over the coming months.

Does anyone have any experience of this and how or where to go about obtaining them?

Do we need to have any recognised accreditations? (All our staff are trained and certified in high level powered and un-powered access equipment)

Would it benefit by joining the BSGA?

    Any help gratefully received.

    Thanks.

I suspect your client has been reading this book

Phil, that book always makes me laugh – vanity publishing at its best and he gets to have a pop at the whole sign trade at the same time all from the safety (pardon the pun) of his own trade installation company!

The issue of H&S has been flagged up on the boards many times & I don’t want to reignite the debate but I’m guessing (from prior experience of Motorway Service Area work) that what the client really wants is a Risk Assessment & Method Statement, providing this is complied with it will fulfill all of the necessary H&S obligations and should satisfy the client.

If he insists on Health & Safety ‘certificates’ then book your fitters onto the next available 30 minute CSCS electronic ‘course’ to get them a regular site visitors CSCS card.

You can do H&S tests via the CITB had to do it for the CSCS card basically 20-30 mins at the local computer centre (normally where they do the driving test theory) and you’ll get your certificates. Normally shuts the busy bodies up when you can produce them voluntary because they are afraid you will know more than them.
