  • Having Vehicle library issues, views and opinions please?

    Hi Guys

I’ve been using a certain UK vehicle library for some time but very frustrated with it, The sizes of the panels and shapes are incorrect even for sign writing they seem to be set to big!

Is there any library’s out there that are spot on you could possibly make templates from?

I always use the actual van that I’m going to write and measure that, after a while you build up a database of most of the common vans.
Trouble with outline CDs is they don’t always show where the badges are, mainly when the van or truck manufacturer decides to move badges around every now and then.

    Hi Guys

Yes it’s quite surprising just how far they are out on the length and height of the panels on the vans. Like someone else has
posted I always measure the van then after a while you build up your own files on the sizes of the artwork etc.

It is frustrating but they are a great help also, especially for artwork for the customer to see and not over expensive to buy.

No vehicle outline library is 100% accurate. it cant truly be in the 2D format it comes in.
It should be used as a guide, but still very good at that.

The best i can recommend is the one by Brian Hays at Impact : https://www.impactgs.co.uk

Many outline libraries you find online, around Europe and the states tend not to have as many UK vehicles and are not as accurate.

Taking Pictures of vehicles and scaling them up is a good way also, I agree!
However, this isn’t always convenient for the customer and the pictures have to be taken properly to get true sizing.
You also have to make sure the vans clean, which again isn’t great when it turns up dirty just for this purpose of the picture, then come back to be fitted.

That said, i do use this method for machines, JCB, buses etc but this is normally because We visit them at their premises.
(yes the vehicle outline library’s do have these on file also. I mean for those that are not on it.
