  • Having issues opening/importing AI/eps file

    Hi all.

I have just licensed and downloaded an AI/eps file from Adobe Stock, but am getting an error message that there was an issue trying to open it.

I’m using CorelDRAW X8 and I suspect it’s going to be an issue with layers. Or it could actually be a fault with the file itself.

Was wondering if anybody with Adobe Illustrator has any issues with it, or is just me (and Corel)?

Unfortunately, the file is too large to upload here, so if anyone can message me, I will email the file to them and see how we get on from there.

Not too sure if I can post my email address here, so I won’t ❓

Hi Peter, this is a problem with some software programmes , usually corel handles a lot of file formats, but i used to have this problem with corel, have you tried renaming the extension file name, ie from ???.ai to ??? .Eps or if you can get adobe illustrator and try and save it in a different format ie a PDF or see if theres a .cmx extension file

    Thanks for the suggestions Jamie.

But renaming the file extension doesn’t change the actual file and Corel will still try to handle opening/importing it the same way. With errors in my case.

As to getting Adobe Illustrator, it’s almost certain that the files was saved onto the Adobe stock website using the near latest version of AI. As such, just to try and open one file, I’m not wantng to pay the hundreds of pounds to purchase a copy, nor am I wanting to pay 19.97/month, for the online subscription for the application, for the very few times this is an issue.

Which is why I was hoping that someone running a later version of AI could try and open the file for me (to see whether it’s Corel or the file at fault) and then save it as a PDF and mail it back to me.
