Then this site is for you.

It’s called Lulu.com and is designed to allow authors to publish their own books. It’s different from any other "vanity" publisher in that there are no upfront costs involved in producing your book.

Last year I wrote a book all about a 1970’s Kit Car called the Nova and have published it through this site.

So if you’ve got a book inside you that the world deserves to hear about, have a look at http://www.lulu.com (and while your at it – have a look at my book too 😛 )

    Hi Phill,
Thats very interesting, I didn’t know that type of service even existed.
Have you had much success selling your books and are they only available through Lulu?.

    Cheers John

    Hi John

So far I have only sold about 35 copies – mainly as a result of it being mentioned on http://www.nova-international.net (a forum for enthusiasts of the car) and http://www.sterlingsportscars.com (an American company that has recently revived the kit).

I am trying to publicise it through some specialist car magazines like "Kit Car" by sending out "News Releases" in the hope of some free advertising.

It’s currently only available through lulu.com but could be made available to places like Amazon.

I’ve never written a book but thought about it on more than one occasion. What made you do something like that Phill and how long did it take you.

Almost a year Martin – I started it about this time last year.

The idea came about when I was looking to buy a book about this particular car. I soon discovered none appeared to have ever been written so I thought I would have a go. 😕

    Hi Phill,
I think thats brilliant that you’ve sold 35 copies of a book you wrote, I bet it felt great when the first few orders came in. Good luck in the future with sales.

About 4 or 5 years ago I worked a 9 – 5 job, my wife worked nights and once I’d put the kids to bed I started trying to write a novel. At first it was quite hard to put my ideas onto paper but after about 6 months I’d hatched the story line and wrote about a third of the book. When redundancy give me the kick up the backside I needed, to start my own company, the book was put on the back shelf and hasn’t been touched in over 4 years.

After reading your post about LULU I think its time to dust off the draft and get started again.

    work permitting. 😉

    Cheers John

    good on ya John.

I’ve had a few people ask me to consider writing a book based on my newsletters. I’ve been doing them for a few years now. I’ve even been contacted my a literary manager, a copywriter and an agent. I never took it seriously though. Good for the ego, that’s about all.

I’ve never thought I was any good to be honest, but I might seriously sit down and see if I can put all the good newsletters into a book now.

    Thanks again for the link.

    Hi Shane,
I’ve never read your newsletters but by going off your posts I think it would be an interesting read. Go For It.

    Cheers John
