Has anyone had good results with transfer papers?

years back we used to have a transfer paper type copier with special inks.
ive posted a while back about it on this site… maybe do a search on it…
you may find it under “Xpress”

anyway, the machine looked like an old photocopier. when you printed with it the print life was so good that it out lasted any tops we had…
i had a white t-shirt with a cartoon on the front. a year later and a hundred washes the t-shirt was done… the print was still there as good as ever… it was a navy outline of a cartoon… dont know if colours such as red would be affected any different…
anyway i dont think they still do the same machines but should have an alternative.
you could also print straight onto brass or alloy etc in same way.. paper transfer onto brass. apply heat and it was on for good… 😉

all this said i know you want to print on a dark t-shirt…
sorry but i cant remember how we went with garments like that!

Xpres offer a print and cad cut system but I don’t have it. To get Light onto Dark you have to have a thick plastisol type image to stop bleed through and the type of people we do work for wouldn’t accept this.

Xpres also sell a Sublimation Flock whereby you cut out the outline on your plotter and remove it from the backing paper. (This means that it has to be a one piece design), spray mount your sublimation transfer on top of it and press the whole lot together onto the garment. Fiddly and again a sort of scissors cut panel rather than a colour print. May be ok for badges?

Becky get onto xpress and ask for a sample from them apply it properley and you won’t have a problem with it coming off, judge the quality yourself.p.s xpress are pricey but good to deal with – you can’t have it all ways can you?[/left]

Hi Becky,

There are a few companies that do a transfer paper for dark garments, but the best i have come across are The Magic touch CPM 6.0 and direct consumables forever dark (both for use in laser printers or colour copiers) i have used both of these with great succes over the past year or so.

To be honest with you i can’t comment on the stuff from xpres, i had a sample of it but found it was very thick so never tested any further.

At Printwear & Promotion last year picked up a sample for Ink jet from a company called Merlin Transfers (I think). I’ve not tried it yet, but it came with a sort of silicone transfer sheet. Seem to remember they also do one for Dark Fabrics. Will dig out phone No and Web addy and post tomorrow.

Also Grafityp do one for Ink Jet but sure it needs to be pigmented inks, mine are dye based.

I’ve been using Xpres stuff through the Citizen Printiva for the moment, and of course the Subli.
