has anyone else used signlab 8 for versaworks?

Rich, dont go and invest just yet,
I think cadlink may have a few teething problems, Nick Minall may tell you more, I dont use versaworks, so cant comment in a constructive way.

I was about to go there this week, had a chat with a really helpful guy (Ray) in tech support at Cadlink regarding running vista 64bit and the rip on xp etc etc

I use s/lab 8 for versaworks. all be it only for a few months

Would be interested in the teething problems Nick has encountered

I like it. Roland colour pallet all pre loaded as you know.

Some good features with it also inc, eye candy effects aswell as gimp.
I haven’t got the fluid mask with mine which looks very good.

I have been using signlab for years so haven’t found it that hard to use, if you have to match colours a lot of the time which sounds like you do, it will save you time,

I guess it,s back to software comparisons again, never used flexi, but as has been discussed signlab has to be one of the most user friendly software
you can buy, so don’t thin it will take to long to adapt to.

Also no having to export, it has a ”print to versaworks” in the file menu, it is that easy.

Hi Brian I understand that I just don’t have my rip on the computer that signlab would be installed on andthat’ss why I called cadlink to see how it would work, they were very helpful and said they have been asked a few times how to do this and said they would talk me through set up. I would put versaworks on my new system but running vista 64bit and as you may know versaworks is not compatible, that said I like it running from another computer.

It’s very cheap in comparison to the full Signlab Print & Cut Peter. It only works with Roland’s. Won’t run any other Printer or Cutter. It’s aimed at people that have Versaworks which doesn’t have any design capabilities to speak of.

I think Cadlink pay a licence fee for Fluid Mask that’s why it’s not included.

Fluid Mask is an extra now anyway. I think from memory £150. You got it as part of the deal as they were doing a special price when 8.0 was first released.

The problem with SL to Versaworks is only if you have SL print and cut I think.

it is free to uses of SL print and cut, just need new Lic files but they seem to be having problems with it 😕

I just use SL to design things and print with Versaworks with eps 3 works fine for me, I cannot get SL rip to work as I would like so do it that way.

You can export to Veraworks input A or B folders and they go straight in to the rip.

updating my comp as vista is a nightmare and would like to use the 64 bit disk, and use more of the 8gig of ram my comp has.

i have a Roland sp54 and would like to cut the amount of programs i have to use to output prints.

£550 for signlab seams very reasonable, used to work with signlab at a previous employer and thought it was much more than that.

I use it a I find the colour profiles in Signlab poor compared to Versaworks.
I havent had any issues yet printing to versaworks at all. Thats all it does is export as level 3 eps as far as I can see.

If you get the SL for VW get the Fluidmask for 150£ extra I had the Fluidmask and cant get it to work direct from SL for VW

So I couldn’t use it to cut to my plotter aswell then? Could I buy a plugin to let me do that? If I’m going to give it a go I’d rather have software that could run my printer plus my cutter too
