Has anybody tried to make their own system of auto weeding of vinyl text? Has the industry any idea of the amount of man hours wasted doing this tedious and expensive task costing millions a year.Anyone heard of any new kit on the horizon that will do this job or any research by manufacturers into making this facility happen? or is it not possible? what do you think of when you are weeding 50 lines of 10 mm Times Roman (ugh!) at 10 at night?.. then you put a big sheet of wasted carrier on it!!! theres no justice.. steve

its hard enough for me to peel vinyl from the backing sheet woth my fingers, and do you think a machine would put the full stop back in place after they are stripped with the waste vinly 🙂
good idea, but would be very difficult to work out a method…
also i think with the development of digital printers both thermal in the way of the gerber edge, od thermal in the way of encad machines etc, i guess some jobs that cause a lot of trouble, i.e menu boards could be digital printed on a backlite film

well guys it has been done. & as usual it was in the usa. i seen it on a website about a year ago. I think if you try a search for one you will find it. to be honest i thought it looked more bother than it was worth.
it looked like an old clothes wringer.
you wound the handle and it peeled back the vinyl & it wound it up out of the way..
all very well but you 1, you have to set it up.
& then 2, peel the waste back off the machine..
anyway no matter what you still had to pick the bits out of the centre of the "O" "A" & "P" etc

any way back to the drawing board i thought!

There was one at Sign UK years ago, sounds like the one you are talking about.

It only seems to work on 12"+ high helvetica tho?

So if you have miles of that to weed it might be half usefull, if you don’t it’s not!
