na mate, was supposed to take the day off and have it with the family, ended up working tho. Had to do thursdays work 😥 I collapsed on Thursday and was rushed to hospital. Spent a very long day being injected, poked and proded, and having every imaginable speciman taken, only to be told to go home and rest. 🙄 Apparently the doc concluded I am working too hard. 😮

Anyway, the job I was to do on thurs had to be done by today, so I went in to work to get it done. I just love being self employed 🙄

Had my share of prawns the week before with our wedding anniversary. Don’t need to see another prawn or bug for another year I promise you 😉

How did you go with that job you asked me to quote on? Never heard back.

🙁 Sorry to hear you have been feeling unwell Shane!!! Hope you feel better and even though all us self employed peeps know how difficult it is to get rest … you should try!! I bet it was a fright for you and your family.

You should sit back with a nice drink, something nice to eat and read through UKSB and have a chuckle with all your cyber buddies 😉

    😀

Thanks Carrie, I’ll be right. My dad didn’t want to wait for an ambulance as the hospital is just down the road from work. Drove me in my new van that he has never driven before 😮 . At 70, it was pretty worrying for him. I kept telling him not to worry, but he wouldn’t listen 😛 .

Cathy was not able to get away from work as she still can’t drive with her broken hand (I had dropped her off earlier) so she just had to wait and get updates from dad on the mobile.

All very exciting stuff…. not! 🙁

Hi Shane, Sorry to hear about your recent set back mate, do as you are told & slow down a bit at work, then take your wife out for a brisk walk every evening for about an hour. Surprising how this lowers your blood pressure & your weight. Your dear wife will also benefit from this as the 2 of you will have an hour together without any interruptions of the phone going off & answering posts etc.

I went through similar problems 2/3 years ago, I was so busy I was actually working 20 hours a day and only 4/5 hours sleep a night. I had put on 4 stone in weight without realising, blood pressure went sky high.
Only thing i had noticed was my ankle was puffed up at night, thought nothing of it, just put it down to old age until my neighbor said it was a sign of blood pressure.

Made an appointment at local clinic, nurse took my blood pressure then said Wait there a minute, she left the room & returned with the Doctor who then took the blood pressure again.

Doctor looked at me & said, “You shouldn’t still be here laddy” he went on to say that he hadn’t seen pressure so high, should have had a stroke or heart attack before now.

This of course frightened me to death, so i started going for brisk walks every day with my wife, it was hard work at 1st, trying to keep up with her but after a week or so i was pulling her along. Took me about a year to loose the 4 stone but it worked.

So take the warning Shane and do something about it before it’s too late.

Annette, my wife has just said that if you & your wife would like to take a long holiday then we will volunteer to come over & take over your business for a wile (hot)

Hey thanks John & Annette, your offer is so generous. My wife was really moved by the offer too. Thanks again. I am really touched by everyones concern here. I probably should not have mentioned it in hindsight.

The reason for my collapse can not really been clarified by the medical people, although they have lots of tests in store for me over the next few weeks.

I am a bit heavy, its true, but the tests they did in hospital were fairly extensive in terms of critical examination.

The doctor tells me that my blood pressure is so good and normal that it is sickening, my cholesterol is in the normal range, and my sugar is normal too. Given that I am overweight, they had 3 specialist check me independently to make sure their readings were correct. I was actually the centre of a lot of attention.

I am told by those who know that I have a personality that will rarely get blood pressure from stress, although I do get stressed some days. Mum and I apparently are the same. We probably stress those around us I suppose. 😛 We are both pretty easy going in that sense. My dad and sister are the opposite. Dad has already had a stroke.

The Dr’s tells me that my problems are probably due to the fact that I am too accommodating, whatever that means.

I don’t sleep well, and that is the basic answer to my problems. That, and I do suffer from depression. Not ‘I’m going to kill myself depression’, but I have days where I just want to lock myself away and not talk to anyone. My wife is a master of reading my moods, an absolute sweetheart.

The UKSB’s is a place I like to visit because I can sit on the sidelines or I can participate. It is a great community here. There is no pressure to perform if you like. When I can’t sleep, I often come here to see what is going on.

The medication is nothing serious, I collapsed due to muscle spasm from not getting enough sleep they think. I have a whole new respect for women in labour! I have been working 6am to midnight since my wife had her fall nearly 4 months ago.

I like the idea of the walk tho. It is something the wife and I have discussed tonight, and we’ll plan to do it soon.

The other thing I have done at the advice of the Dr’s is not to answer my mobile if I am doing something else. If I am in the middle of a job, I let it go to message bank. Apparently the mobile phone is a major cause of stress in small businesses today.

It works too, Less things to think about while your trying to finish a job.

Thanks again John, and everyone else that has offered support. I really do appreaciate it.

I’m off to take my medi and go to bed.

    Cheers all

Hi Shane, a belated happy birthday to you, having just read all the previous posts I have a pretty good idea how you feel, don’t ask me how I know, lets just say I do. I know its almost impossible to do when you run a small business but try to take a bit more time for yourself and your family before its to late.
I hope everything works out OK for you, Like most people on the boards I enjoy reading your posts.

Quite agree with Phil’s comment, Bl***y customers.

All that talk of getting some exercise has reminded my wife & I that we haven’t been out for walkies for a long time & I am slowly putting weight on again,(So I’m told 😳 ) so just reporting in that we have just come back from 45 Min’s brisk walk (in between the showers).
Feel so much better now, …………….I don’t think. 😳

    Happy Birthday M8!!

Portuguese saying: (sounds weird in english but here it goes!)
Take care of your health, before your health take’s care of you!!

Altought i’m much younger then you, i’ve had some problems with high and low blood pressure, L J’s advice is really worthy, no matter if the medical tests say you’re fine.

    Another portuguese saying:
Do as I tell you, don’t do as I do.

    All the best.
