• Hanging Strips?

Posted by Tim Painter on November 27, 2007 at 11:10 am

What material do most use for hanging strips on Dibond or similar do most use a strip of the Dibond?

If so what is the best adhesive to fix the strip to panel?

    Many thanks peeps!

    Tim.

The stability of dibond should make hanging strips unnecessary.

The panels I need to fit can’t be slid in so I was going to use hanging strips so the top edge of the panel can be slid in then the bottom edge will clear the frame and slip in. Then the panel slides down slipping into the lower frame and hangs on the strip.

    Or am I missing something??

    The frame is approx 3′ x 27′

You can still do that without a hanging strip. The panels rest on the bottom extrusion.

The point of the hanging strip with thermoplastics is to help prevent buckling due to expansion. You won’t get that with dibond.

If you’re more comfortable with the strips you could use acrylic or foamex strips attached with araldite or even rivets (as we found on a sign we replaced today)

I must be having a Homer day.

If the panel sits inside the bottom of the frame & goes say 5mm up above the front face of the upper frame, when you lift it, it wont pass the front face of the lower frame so how do you get it in?

I assume it only works on frames with enough depth front to back so you can insert the frame on the angle giving enough clearance?

Not much panel ends up behind the top front face though does it?

    Thanks for your replies Peter.

You may be right with certain frame profiles if there is not enough depth. It works with foamex or acrylic because you can bend the sheet. So you may be better off with hanging strips.

The other thing to watch for is that the panels, being much thinner, don’t rattle against the frame in the wind. It might drive your customer mad!! If it might rattle, just pad out with some foamex pieces.
