Hanging Light Box for Cranes – what is the best way? Help?
Posted by Eddie Lawrence on November 10, 2014 at 11:24 amHas anyone got any experience of making these?
I have a customer who wants me to manufacture a light box with a perspex front, illuminated by LEDS.
The question is, how best to hang these from Crane?Jon Marshall replied 9 years, 6 months ago 6 Members · 6 Replies -

What sort of crane? First thing that crossed my mind was wind loading/air pressure blowing/sucking the panel out at any sort of height especially with any sort of jib movement.
Is this something that already exists or was it something your customer thought would be a good idea?
Bit more detail might be helpful

It is a tower crane, like the one attached. The Sign would measure 3 metres wide and one metre high, and 200mm deep.
If you can see the sign on the picture it is the long thin one.
Single Sided, Flex face graphic, with LEDs inside a light box.
We are thinking about creating a steel frame first, and then attaching this to the crane, with the light box screwed to the steel frame. -
Speak to Kestrel, they are good with stuff like that. They will build you the complete box than can just bolt to the crane, you will need to give them fixing centres etc.

Hi
don’t forget to speak to the crane manufacturer drilling their structural steel is normally a no no and clamping to the wrong components is as well. The attached PDF may help

Not done a crane, but did do a Ferris wheel years ago.

Box was totally reinforced internally with riveted steel corner brackets as stock boxes aren’t up to the job.
Kevin is right. Check with the structural guys as each and every hole in anything ‘solid’ has to be accounted for. I fitted to the central deck, bolted, plated and steel cable security lines…total belt and braces.
Also check you do the electrics to spec too.
If you are fitting, try to do it when it’s at ground level!

We do a lot of these. The crane company fixes them to the cranes though, we just supply aluminium boxes with LED’s and the perspex panels.
