    Hello!

    I’m an idiot.

Just for fun I decided to unroll and then re roll a log of digi vinyl with NO GLOVES ON!

    (apa vinyl)

I now have hand prints all over the vinyl and it is coming through when printing.

    Question is…..

Is there anything I can do to rescue the roll?

Or am I looking at a very heavy bin bag into the bin this week?

wipe down the media with isopropyl using lint-free cloth should help it. its basically the oils from your hands thats contaminated the face of the film.

Thanks for the reply Rob, I’ll try the isoprop.

    Right, nobody laugh.

Can I use roland printer cleaning fluid?

I wanna have a go tonight and don’t have any isoprop….

Right, my last go of getting out of this pitiful mess.

So, use the new hand printed digi vinyl as standard white cutting vinyl, no problem there, works out the same price as metamark 4 series white and 150mm wider so wooppeeee!.

Then, order new vinyl, delivery 9am tomorrow.

Trouble is, need to post laminated prints by 5pm same day.

Job will take til 11am to print. (First one (of four) ready at 10am)

Have I got enough time for the legendary outgassing to occur before needing to start laminating at about 3pm?

I realise ‘no’ is the proper answer but thought I’d seek an opinion or two…

Blast them from the BACK with a heat gun.

I tried this once with Iso Prop and ended up with wipe smears instead of hand prints. Lesson learned; always put the white gloves on.

To speed up outgassing we hang the prints in a cupboard with a fan pointing at the printed face with a slight downward angle to encourage the solvent gas to ‘slide’ off the print. Using the scientific olfactory test (sniffing it) we can cut outgassing time for low to medium ink loads to about 3 hours. Not failed yet.

But no, you should really leave it overnight 😀

hi hope i’m not too late! 100% rubbing alcohol is what we use, it gets rid of hand grease and when printed it looks fine. One of my staff has oily hands and it took us ages to work it out, he now wears gloves for everything! we showed it to a roland tech one time he was over and that is what he suggested and it works a treat! Have used it on vinyl, banner and it works well on both. Goodluck
