NEVER LET IT BE SAID I GO OVER THE TOP. this is the chap who makes my wrought iron brackets and steel legs.
i was at his wedding evening do a few months ago ( not my cup o tea ) he was relatively drunk and kept coming over to me and saying ‘ you will make me a nice sign won’t you, oh yeah and i want it big ‘
strange kind of brief, but he got what was coming to him.
he constructed the steel frame with fleur de lys around edge and the sign sat snuggly within. boards are all medite rendered with paint and vinyl. the raised centre panel is cut to the shape of his new logo. quibell is a digital print with chequer plate within letters and welder is digital. ( going back a few years ago it would have all been painted, but time and motion wait for no man, and paying the bills must come first ( either that or i’m getting lasier.
    please note lowercase mr WP.

lettering his van later in the week, business cards and all his stationary have been done with new logo. customers spend all this money then leave a shi##y bin out the front. i’ve requested he spray it black then i’ll letter it. it’s all about the image these days and it sometimes takes time to re educate people. will post another pic of customised bin. he he

to be honest chalkie i don’t know. i just send them my artwork and they send back print. the only important thing i concerned myself with was quality of the print and it’s longevivity ( 5-7 year ). oh yes, and price.

…well that shold catch their eye – as surely as if you’d picked um up and slapped um down on one of those spikes!!!…lol

One thing so badly missing in so much of todays signwork is….shape!

Everything’s so bloomin’ square, so predictable, so boring! You can make something fabulous from a square or rectangular sign but the fact that a sign has a unique profile means that feature alone gets ‘noticed’ long before the words can be read and ensures it stands out from the crowd – a great way to increase both the effectivness of the sign and the value to the customer (and therefore the cost too!)…a good lesson for all Paul!

    a crackin’ piece of work

    more soon

    quote Gray:

Very nice work Paul, I luv BIG signs.
Tell me though, what is medite? never heard of his here.

medite in its simplest form is exterior mdf ( medium density fibreboard )
you’ll hear a lot of chaff about this product. mostly from people who have not treated it right. ( i don’t mean drinks and a meal )

all edges must be slightly rounded ( paint sticks better to a curve than a right angle ). the back is treated the same as the front, 2 undercoats & two top coats. ( using a roller for painting ). never butt joints, this product moves, we’ve always left a minimum of 1/8 ” gap for expansion.
i’ve now been using this product for eight years and the first signs look as good as the day they went up.

recommended paint system is crown stronghold.

Nice work Paul, as Mike says adding shape can make all the difference, we try to offer the customer a shaped sign where possible. Sorry to hear about your legs, couldn’t you get some plastic ones on the NHS ?
