  • hand painted posters: christmas cards

Posted by Pat Byrne on November 24, 2006 at 10:38 am

Following a week that included lettering an oil tanker,Cattle truck and various 8×4’s. Designing/photographing Christmas brochure/ newspaper ads. I spent a very relaxing day yesterday knocking out some hand lettered showcards which made me realise how much simpler things were in the past.
All what was needed then was a 6h pencil, knife, straight edge, bullet point markers, some brushes, water, Plaka paint, paper, card with info either faxed or telephoned by client, Just snap a few guide lines and away you go.
No proofing/ no plotters/ no printers/no stocks of vinyl/ substrates etc.,no newspaper deadlines and no massive volumes of waste.

I intended to finish with showcards etc. when current stocks of card/paints were gone, but following what was such a pleasant day I have decided to reorder and continue to offer this service as some of my clients still look for hand lettering, albeit on a seasonal basis
    Ahhhh! the good old days
    Pat

    Fabulous work.
There is nothing like a good old showcard.
And nothing is more satisfying to produce.

From one poster writer to another thats top stuff Pat.

I did do a couple the other week, very rare now though.

You are right in what you say, the only worry I had was keeping my brushes in good condition.

    How thing change 😕

    Top man!

Brought a nostalgic tear to this old "writers" eye.

You’re right about waste too; no mountains of PE film, waste vinyl, reams of backing paper, pile of test prints, profile troubles etc. Just about the only thing thrown away was half a cup of "gone cold" tea!

I still write a bit now, mainly honours boards and motorbike tanks, butr sadly no posters or showcards. I’ve still got the kit, perhaps I ought to drag it out again…

Thank you sir and keep your hand in, you can obviously still do it.

I love all that stuff. They look great.

You do see a lot of showcard writing still, but nothing as smart as this.

hand lettering is pure therapy! you forget the computer hassle’s for an hour or two – don’t ever give it up.
