• Half Wrap

Posted by RickJesse on October 29, 2008 at 1:13 pm

This is a re-wrap of a job we did a while back, the car had a little accident so we re-wrapped it as we now have our own printer and couldn’t match our previous supplier.
Plus it was an insurance job so the didn’t mind paying for it all to be done again.

    thats very smart! well done.
Bet now having the printer has made a massive difference.
We have had ours awhile now, taking us to another level and cut out the middle man.

    Nice work!

Yeh, I’m a picky git too so it is better having control over the finished product instead of having to take delivery of what someone else thinks is acceptable (when it’s not).

Hi Neil, we printed this onto Grafityp clear, as the car was white, then added metallic cut lettering. We would have had a nightmare trying to match the white vinyl to the paintwork (even the spray job on the new bits does not match the BMW paint).

We have a Roland VP540 and it’s pretty cool except the cutting blades are made out of butter or something, as they hardly do any work and they’re blunt.

We also have an easymount laminator with heated top roller. Basically we went for the best but cheapest stuff we could afford, maybe after a year or two we’ll upgrade depending on success or not.

Clear vinyl !!! that’s how you do it. Did you finish at the door jam or did you trim around the graphics as I notice you have a faded print running of to white. I did a job about four years ago on some vans it was our first attempt at partial wrapp we struggled to match the cream colour of the van but but i bet if we had used clear it would have been better. The colour stuff is all new to me so im glad to pick up some tips its surely going to save me money when we start printing in house.

I have attached a pick do you think this would have worked in clear I appreciate any feed back.

    Thanks Neil….

Hi Neil, I guess that clear would work. My only thought was you would lose the brightness of the highlight….but as the rest will be slightly muted by the cream then relatively the highlight will be just as punchy….if you get me?

The good thing about having your own printer is you can print out a colour chart on your material with your preferred settings and match colours much more accurately.

Nice work on the van, did you cut and sit the print in the recesses or did you work them in?

thats very nice rick, i love the simplicity of it mate. simple layout & design but has allot of impact at the same time.

more a personal view on this, but as way of constructive crit ide probably have moved the main text nearer the picture, more so on one side. just seems a little disjointed on one end.
again, personal view, ide probably have made the text all right justified "then maybve left" on the other side. if that makes sense.
bonnet text seems a tad big and high up the bonnet.

anyway… as i said, just my own views. lovely work and thank you for taking the time to post it.

All good points Robert, I put the logo to the front of the panels as I didn’t want to crash the graphic and loose legibility, it’s hard enough to see a car when it’s driving past so thought I’d give people a chance. Plus a personal hate of mine is when people cut letters in half with a door gap so I tried to position it equally between the gaps. And finally the bonnet had a bit much on it in my opinion but the client required everything, so i tried to give it a bit of space, but yes it maybe is a little bit higher than it could have been. But thanks for your comments it’s always good to get other opinions as thats how we learn.

Andrew we laminated it with Grafityp LAM040. Which I have to say is awesome, we are reletively new to the signage/wrap scene so haven’t got years of experience of different products but this Grapfiwrap stuff is definitely one of the best we’ve used.
