Had an embrassing experience lately?
On more than one occasion I ran around looking for my mobile phone, only to find it was in my hand all the time. Another time, I lost my sunglasses until someone pointed out they were still on the top of my head.
Nothing though, compares to the embarrassment I experienced when I went to buy my meal late one night.
Wanting to get home, but realising that the wife would probably be asleep and not too keen on feeding me, I decided, instead of waking her up, I’d grab a quick hamburger. Driving through Browns Plains I saw the ‘Golden Arches’ and pulled in to the parking lot.
Being totally exhausted from a particularly hard day, I was so tired it was just too hard to concentrate. I staggered into the restaurant, fronted the counter, only to see that I was being served by a pretty young woman by the name of Linda. According to her badge sitting proudly on her chest, she was a trainee. Not hard to tell, as she was clearly nervous and still
had that ‘new uniform’ look. It was her first day.‘This is just great!’ I thought to myself, ‘All I need is to be some trainees guinea pig!’. I decided to make the whole exercise as easy as possible for us both. I took a deep breath and gave my order. ‘I’ll have a medium Big Mac Meal Deal with Diet Coke’ I said, trying to make some concessions for my expanding waist line. I was loud, clear and precise, to avoid
any confusion.I was met with silence. Not just Linda, but all the other staff just stared. The other patrons stared too, like I was some poor deranged soul waiting for the men in white coats to come and take me home. Everyone just stopped in their tracks. It was bizarre.
‘Is there a problem?’ I said, trying to hide my mounting frustration.
‘Could be’ said Linda in her nervous trainee innocence, ‘this is Hungry Jacks, McDonald’s is next door’It was that instant that I realised I should, perhaps, wear my glasses more often!
