  • H&S signs (Standard colours?)

Posted by Roger Clements on July 22, 2009 at 10:15 am

    Hello one and all,

Would appreciate some info regarding H&S signs….the usual No Entry, No Smoking etc (bought the Impact DVD). I have had an enquiry for making these up. However before I go quoting, ordering and cutting is there an ‘industry standard’ for the colour of the vinyl to make these signs? With all the differing shades out there I don’t want to go ordering in the wrong colour/shade vinyl.

    Thanks.

I think the British Standards are a bit vague. They state that Prohibition should be Red, Mandatory Blue etc. I don’t think there is an exact shade that they should be.

take some swatches for your preferred supplier and match against a sign you think looks right, im sure no one will quibble theres probably a variety of shades in use particularly outside as signs start to fade.

the only time colour is critical is when some nobby designer gets involved 😀

Roger, try dong a search as this question has been asked a few times before.
Think you will find that as Brian has said the standards are pretty vague and as John has said most people just match the best they can from what ever vinyl range they use.

Have you had samples from various vinyl suppliers and decided on which range of vinyl you will be using on a daily basis ?

I did a load using Mactac 9839-10 and everyone was happy with them.

    Hi Martin,
Thanks for the reply. As I am still very much ‘new’ I’m using vinyl that came with the Graphtec as well as a batch of Mactac I bought to hone my ‘limited’ skills on.
I will have to contact some suppliers for swatches/samples to better assess what else is available.
