–> This may be a silly question: But How Do You………

Allow for cutting the vinyl when allowing for curves on a vehicle??

I have seen some amazing graphics but when i try to fit them on curves ( especially transit window curves ) it ends up snagging, stretching or generally looking crap.

I would like to be able to put large graphics on motorbike tanks etc etc

Come on i know its basic but whats the answer??
    Thanks

Many ways. Some curves on vehicles can be overcome by careful application techniques. For example, working outwards from the centre of a large graphic to even out any gather. Whereas others require conformable ‘wrap’ vinyl. And practice. I would be happy to spend a couple of hours with you next time you want to apply something like this. Bear in mind that all vinyls have limitations and it is important to pick the right one for the job.

PS Something about ‘spreading all the light all a-round’. Am I right?

Thankyou for the reply and especially for the offer of help!

I would really like the opertunity to pick your brains also on what my software can do ( i use sign-lab 5 ) as i have never been shown how to operate the software and only use it foir the very basic lettering stuff.
I would like to learn how to curve the lettering and especially how you do text and pictures in differnt colours of viny by means of cutting one bit one colour and another bit another colour??

I guess i am right in assuming that you work in the industry and would happily pay you for your time and expertise to show me how to do the sort of stuff above. If you arnt interested in money i could always buy you some beer at the pub etc etc
Let me know what you think??
    Thanks
    Peter

If you contact me directly on petebis@yahoo.com i will give you my mobile number.

    Peter:
If you have Signlab 5 then you have a very special programme and to be just cutting ‘straight letters’ is liking having a porche and driving around in your garage all day. It is great if you can have a guiding hand but there is real fun in finding out for yourself what a brilliant package it is simply by trial and error.

The……… ‘I wonder what will happen if I press this’ method is perhaps the long route but it is great fun.

Most of us learnt this way but if you can get a start by a willing volunteer then I don’t blame you for snapping it up

I like to use a hair dryer and a felt squeegee.
Helps to get the stuff into tight spaces.
    I’m NO vynull expert tho.
Nothing beats a can of paint and a brush, to me,
for getting into those pesky nooks and crannies!

To tell you the truth John, I’m pretty quiet at the moment and would do anything for a few cups of coffee and a chocolate hobnob. 😀

Hey Jill, if you need to get in the nooks and crannies, try a loofah. 😀

I was kinda hoping that you wouldn’t know what a loofah was and I would get away with that rather crude joke.

    I love that phrase: ” Nooks and crannies “. What’s a cranny?

    Be careful Big G that’s a loaded invitation :lol1:

I used to know a loofah: Think his name was Martin Loofah King and his mate was called Loofah Van Dross

Anyway: Don’t touch loofahs just leave it for the scum.

Actually I got “cranny” from an ad for
    Thomas’ English Muffins.
“With lots of nooks and crannies to hold the melted butter”
A cranny is just that….a small divot, crater, or nook.
    I would prefer chocolate myself.
    Love the Loofah stuff John.

    Yes Carrie me too.
Why is it that men will never use a puffy thing?
    Especially PINK ones! :cheer:
    (I call ’em scrubby things)
Is it more macho to have a bunch of dry dead skin cells
and dingleberries hanging off your person?
    They are great for exfoliating,
but I would not recommend one for vynull application.

I just scraped my finger nails down the soles of my feet when I’m in the shower

Yeah! I know: Disgusting isn’t it (drown)

Pink fluffy things? Only at the weekends

Jill I totally agree that the puff is probably not a very good item to use on vinyl.
……..strange how men wont use them …… its as though they think they are immune to dead skin cells or they really do believe that women like a bit of rough …… but they take it in the wrong sense and I dont want anybody with dingleberries near me :lol1: 😉

    Carrie 😛 ….. blue puff owner …… :lol1:

If you have to ask, John, I ain’t telling.
Maybe they are not the same thing over the pond as they are here,
but I assure you, dingleberries are universal.

Hopefully they are not applied anywhere!
    They are best when removed,
    or not aquired at all.
John, do a Google search on dingleberries!
You’ll be shocked at what crops up!

    Done a google search

    Must get out more ……….

Honestly, had never heard of Dingleberries before now,
must have been my sheltered upbringing.

BTW, the spell checker didn’t’ recognize dingleberries,
but did dingle berries or dingle-berries

I won’t post this link because it might be considered a little too naughty for the website and be removed – but instead do a google search for dingleberry and rock.

You have had me in stitches too many tears to type I had to wait a while before replying.

I actually use a piece of netting (not knotted) and it’s great for a good old scratch, especially around the proverbial! removes even the berries 😳

    Cheers

    I hear the jingle jangle
    Of my awful berried bangle
As I apply my vinyl neat
I think of how they must feel
When I take my lunchtime seat.

What a dilema my mind is in
Those poor undies, what a sin.
How will I free this awful tangle
As those berries as they dingle, or is it dangle?
The tissue just can’t handle the grip
    Scissors, oooh, they might nip.
    That’s it I’ve had enough,
Out comes my trusty big puff!

Sorry, but somethings just amuse me. 😳

    Lovely poem there Dave!
Could you do me a rendering of it in Broad Scots like Burns?
    Thanks for the chuckle!
    Love….Jill
(all I could think of was a Cowboy tune:
    ~I got berries, that dingle-dangle-dingle,
as I go riding merrily along~
    or a Country song:
    ~Mah wife left me
    cuz I had dingle berrrrries….
But mah dawg, he’s still by mah side~)

Remind me of this thread again:
    Is it
This maybe a silly question but how do you…….

    How do you what?
    Remove dingleberries
Steer clear of those with them

I think we should quit loofing around and get some work done 😀
