Greetings from USA
Posted by Nick Bohach on May 24, 2007 at 7:06 pmHello to all from USA.
First off, I am not a sign maker, but I have been perusing this site for awhile.
I am an Electrical Engineer, and the company that I work for manufactures I.D. plates and Labels, including RFID Tags.
The reason that I joined is that I have found quite a bit of useful information here, and some extremely knowledgable people.
Thank you for that!I am mostly interested in the Digital Printing area. We are currently starting to use a Mimaki JV3-75SPII. We are printing on .003" aluminum that has a Vinyl based, heat treated coating. We then clear coat, and UV cure. It has proven to be an interesting challenge, and there are still some "issues" to work on. But are making progress.
You have an excellent site here, with very good people.
Thanks for letting a "Yank" in !-Nick

Hi Nick
You’ll find there’s always a warm welcome here-I’m another who doesn’t make signs,(well, only on garments) welcome to the ‘family’Babs

Hey Nick, welcome from Australia too. As Peter says, plenty of ‘yanks’ (and ‘aussies’) too.
The more the merrier I say 😛

Shane I didnt mention yanks, not quite sure of the etiquette, but I believe its something like calling a scott a taffy….
Although a generic term, in ww2 England, when all the English totty got off with "rich" yanks…(free nylons and chocolate)
perhaps one of our friends over the pond could clarify or air their views?
I know I’m a pomme though
😉

…or a Limey. Sure I remember that from somewhere, but can’t think
where. Something to do with an old Navy term.Anyway, welcome Nick, whatever anyone wants to call themselves, or others!
Cheers,
Jamie. -

sorry Peter, didn’t mean to put words in your mouth.
‘Yank’ is not considered derogatory here though, it a bit like being called an ‘aussie’ in that sense. It quicker to type than ‘american’. Nick used the term in his own post, so I wouldn’t expect him to be insulted.
Sorry Nick (if I did insult you). Welcome again. 😳

Shane,
Mates dont need apologies,
Just enquiring about who is a yank, and who isnt?
didnt mention it was derogatory, Rob gets called a Leprechaun now and again, (love you Rob, in a manly sort of way) but he is a scott, not a paddy!!

:lol1: :lol1: :lol1:
ok ok i give in …………….! Scotch arrrggghhhhh!
-
:lol1: One thing I do know, calling a Canadian a ‘Yank’ is as about as popular as a pork sausage in a synagogue :lol1: Bit like calling a Scot a Pom I’d suspect, :lol1:
When I was a kid, our school bus driver was called ‘frog’. Never knew it was derogatory at the time (he was french). He never seemed to mind, but in retrospect he probably though we were a bunch of mongrels in truth. 😕

I shouldn’t think so Shane. Folks were a lot less sensitive in those days and didn’t go looking for reasons to take offence. The French call the English "Les Rosbifs" in the same way we call them Frogs and, whilst the thinner skinned, may take get upset I consider it to be good natured mickey taking between the two nations.
If we want to be offensive we can do better than "Frogs" and call them "cheese eating surrender monkeys" but, after the recent performance by the Royal Navy in the Persian Gulf, I think we’d do well to keep our mouths shut in the future. 🙁

you mean I’ve lived with the guilt for 30 years 😕 and I didn’t have to?
-
Hi Nick, welcome to the boards. As you can clearly see we are all good friends.
-
Thank you all for the warm welcome!
By the way, I do not consider "Yank" a derogatory term. 😀
The only place in the USA where "Yank" or "Yankee" is considered somewhat derogatory, is in the southern states.
(They are still upset about the Civil War).Anyway, Peter if you have any questions concerning the printing on metal foil, I would be more than happy to share whatever information that I have acquired to this point.
