Greetings from NJ
Posted by George Kern on November 25, 2006 at 1:09 amJust dropped by to say hello, just joined up here @ UKSignboards to see how alot of the business is run on "the other side of the pond" if you will =)
Little about myself, just turned 22 on Nov 15th, I have been into graphics since I was about 9 yrs old, I have been in the advertising industry since 18 and have been doing signage/pos/vehicle wraps for about 2 years now. I hope to learn alot here as i will be joining as a UKSG member in a few minutes as I have found the best way to stay on top in the industry you are in is to be in touch with the others in it =) e.g. NAAP memberships.Shane Drew replied 17 years, 5 months ago 11 Members · 16 Replies -

:lol1: that is the exact response I get from every client after we have met lol. I just have to prove myself to people by showing them what I am capable of because I realize there is always going to be someone else younger, smarter, more talented then I am so I try to stay one step ahead. Thats why I like the art/multimedia/advertising/photography kind of genre so much. If you are good at what you do, age wont make a difference. I am very thankful for my boss’ of the present and past who looked past my age and just cared about what I was capable of doing, you don’t see that often — let alone get paid a great salary. Usually you see companies trying to grab up college grads for a ridiculous salary most of the time a pretty insulting one at best. LoL I hope no one here holds my age against me hehe.

I think I speak for everyone here George, age is not even in the mix. We each have a talent in some area or another, otherwise we’d be doing something else after a year or two.
I had a similar problem when I was 21, my voice had not broken (still hasn’t) and I’d get asked for ID when I went to order a beer. I even had one woman ring my boss and tell him that I should have been at school and I was far too young to be working. I was 22 at the time 😕
Its nice when someone like your boss sees you for what you are capable of, not what your age is. Sounds like you have a good work environment, and its nice that you appreciate your boss and your income. Pretty rare for someone your age from my experience.
I’m sure any input/advice you offer here will be gratefully accepted.
Cheers
