Gradiants / Transparancies
When importing customer files that have a gradiant or transparacie in them we seem to be having issues with corel draw not responding / crashing, sometimes wont even open and then when it will open the file just dont look right.
Opens up fine n AI and photoshop but because we run MIMAKI rasrterlink RIP software and plotters (that run from corel, plotter) we seem to be having massive issues..
Should we be looking at another sftware programe?

Raster link will print PSD files even though it says file not recognised. That should solve the print issue. Let’s hope the artwork is correct pre print. [THUMBS UP SIGN]

Usually I would agree and do just that but it appears that the customer would like us to cut from the file too, meaning we need to import into our design software, this is where the issues come from 🙁
However, at around 10pm last night myself and our head designer came up with a battle plan 🙂
Due to the quick turn around that they wish and the fact that the artwork s not n a workable format for what they want, we have tackled it from another angle 🙂However this has been an issue for quite some time with corel.
It may be tme to move away from it and see what else is out there.
Our boss is asking allot of questions of Flexilab and other software like that. -
On something like this, I would take the cut path off and save it as a separate file. Then save the print
file as a flattened high res JPG. Then re-assemble in Corel / Illustrator, and print from the flattened file,
thus maintaining the ability to kiss cut them afterwards. I don’t use Rasterlink – does it have hot folders
similar to Onyx, where you can drag and drop files to print, or do you print directly from the print dialogue box? -
Jamie, thats exactly the plan we had come up with right up to the point we got told it needed split into three windows then cut!

Basically now we are importing at full size as a tif into RIP then we will tile as normal into 3 sections. *the file is translucent pink with darker pink then clear at the top, however the clear then needs frosted applied on the other side. IF they had told us this in the first place we could have saved everal hours of headbanging with corel lol
There is actually NO NEED to cut the file if they do it how we have suggested.. Customer is always right tho eh?

If cutting is the issue why not look at Finecut, a plug in for illustrator. Able to edit and cut in same program.

we use fine cut in corel.
issue we had with this one is that originally we got told each panel was to be cut yet the artwork was not sent paneled.turns out the file was that complex that even illustrator struggled with it lol

Could you not split it in the rip?

Yes we can split in the rip but the isue to start wih was the fact that the file was to be cut.
Due to th efact it is 6 mtr long it would mean physically making each panel including overlaps then creating individual cut files for each panel.. All in all adding way more time onto th eproduction of this job.. Time is something that we didnt have on this one..We have for this job come up with a solution for it.

Sometimes it helps to open it in Illustrator and re-save it as an older version EPS… we tend to get best results saving it as a CS2 EPS.
