For ages tinters tended to use Spi-vision available from Bonwyke. But this only had 60% VLT which was found to be good on rear lights but cut too much light on headlights.
Covex is a similar product (both a bit like contravision in that it has perforated holes), but the Covex has 80% VLT so better.

It may be Fly Eye you are referring to which is another perforated film like Spi-vision & Covex. there is no info on their website what VLT it has.

The headlight tint of choice however at the moment, if you can find it, is Oracal 8300 as it is a uniform transparent vinyl. However it is apparently hard to source in the UK except on Ebay.

    Thanks Stuart!
Fly high sounds more fun though 😉

Stuart’s right, the preferred product is the Oracal 8300, either light or dark grey.

The fly eye type of material looks really poor and cheap.

The only trouble with the Oracal is availability, I had to order a 50m x 1260mm roll which had to come from Oracal in Germany as its not stocked by any UK suppliers.

There was a long thread about 18months ago about this – looks like it might have been deleted as the advocate of the fly-eye got a bit venomous and hot ‘n’ bothered IIRC.

It’s a bit of a grey area legally as you will be reducing the lighting output by a significant amount, WELL below the type-approval.

Would you want to have a family member mowed down by some boy-racer twat that purposely reduced the effectiveness of their headlights…neither would I.
