To say goodbye to a great legend
He was my hero when I was a lad playing on the old patch of ground in Old Trafford with my mates – We all wanted to be Best

Whatever your opinions of George’s life, he was one of a kind, may he now be at ease and rest peacefully. (hope he’s kickin’ a ball and livng it up, though.) RIP

I watched the BBC tribute program tonight and although there were some great moments from his career, it was all just a bit sad. Still, he made his own choices. Great player, sad end.

He was the first football superstar, and an extremely gifted one at that. Very charming. The likes of Beckham and Rooney can only hope to be half the player he was.
At least he’s now at peace.

I also think it’s very sad, I think it’s sad when anybody dies . My personnal thoughts on this are I know or care little about football I do belive he was one of the greats, I also think he got sucked into a differant world was he not one of the first (if not the first) big paid big money super sports hero’s ?? The guy just wanted to play football but they paid him big money and showed him big things so he tried them all who can blame him ?? I can’t. He made a big mark on the world of football shouldn’t he be just remembered for that ??

He was my hero when I was a kid.

What angered me though was the so called fans that were laying flowers and tributes before he had passed away. I thought this was extremely disrespectful. He was still alive and yet people were already laying wreaths. If I were a memeber of his family I would be furious. They should’ve waited until he had passed away before indulging in their mawkish behaviour. I suppose the TV cameras had a lot to do with it 🙄

perhaps out of respect this thread should be kept as a tribute, not as a general discusion of the rights and wrongs, that can be for a later thread.
George is not yet in his grave.

a friend of mine did a deal with george to play for our local team, he still tells this story and finds it hard to beleive himself, when he rang the doorbell of georges flat miss world answered!! took him upstairs and made him tea, then george came out of the bedroom half dressed, did the deal and asked that half the money be sent to his dad.he came and played for our team and was magic, the only time i saw him play

    RIP George

I attended this legends funeral at the weekend and never again will Northern Ireland see a funeral like that one – I have never in my life time seen as many people so emotional and this all 30 years after George had stopped playing football.

    Madonna-good Pele-better GEORGE-BEST…. what more can be said…
